I quit 2 1/2 weeks ago so I know what you are going through. The patch works pretty good, if you smoke while you are on it you will get sick from to much nicotine. Also try mints. Every time you get the urge, suck on a mint. And don't give up!! oh also it helps if you don't tell yourself you cannot have one, tell yourself that you don't want one instead. GOOD LUCK!!!

It is great you are quitting together. Having the help of someone else really can make it a bit easier. I quit smoking a year ago and I can not believe how much better I feel. I know some of my friends said the patch and gum helped, but I didn't use those. I chewed a ton of gum, in fact I chewed so much my jaw ached constantly. The other thing I did was I changed my habits. Smoking while driving was big, so I chewed gum and sucked on hard candies. When I finished eating, I cleaned up dishes right away,, went for a walk, or sucked on a piece of candy. I also started exercising. If you want to use an OTC product go to Walgreen's they sell their own generic brands that are a little cheaper, but I would also suggest changing your habits. After all, it really is more of a mental battle then a physical one. I think if you can get through 3 days it gets a little easier, because you truly start believing you can do it and much of the physical cravings disappear. Best of luck to you.

I know how you are feeling as I quit for Lent which began yesterday. So far I have had about 4 or 5 cravings. Every time I get one, I try to do something else, anything to keep my mind off it. What made it worse is I went to the pub last night and there were a couple of people smoking there, that was really hard. I am going to the pub again tonight and then out for a meal tomorrow so plenty of more cravings no doubt!
If you get a craving, do something to keep your mind off it e.g. have a shower, eat some chocolate, surf the internet, etc.
Good luck!

Hang in there, 41 hours left an nicotene will be out of your system.
Everytime you get a craving do something, keep active, especially with your hands, don't get bored its half the battle, an remember the routine you used to have an break it. Instead of smoking after a meal try going for a walk.
Good luck an keep going.
I tried giving up once, I lasted a fortnight, but then I thought, hang on a minute, I'm not a quitter!!! LOL.

I gave up just over 13 years ago - the first 8 were the worst!
The nocotine replacement products help some, but you're still hooked on the drug - my wife chewed nicorette gum for 5 years and it was costing more than smoking.
Good luck tho' and take it one day at a time. If you give in and have a ciggie don't despair. Just start agin the next day. It really is worth it.
Oh, and don't go anywhere near a pub for the first month.

Health food stores sell something called "stop smoking", or something similar. The formula should include a liquid (or pill) that will ultimately help you get over smoking by making you nauseous every time you take a drag. These kits also include a cleansing powder of some sort--detox, basically. These kits actually work, just make sure if it doesnt do what it claims you can get your money back.
The healthfood store I worked in sold this type of product at one time, not sure if they still do.

My wife just gave up because she felt unhealthy and embarrassed about smoking also she was seriously worried about the money aspect - so she had solid reasons to WANT to give up and even though she had cravings she didn't find it particularly hard at all.
It is good you both want to and you are doing well but it has to be a purely mental decision that way you will be determined.
Remember you DON'T NEED a cigarette and you WILL NOT DIE if you don't have one. Oh and lots of chewing gum also gt her through. Good Luck.

Cold turkey is all good and everything but doesnt usually stick.
I found that if I started having my first one at a later hour each day, I was practicing putting control in place before just will power.
First day I try not to have one until noon, the next day the first one not until 1, then 2 and so on until after a few days, I am not having one until the evening and it just at that point seems silly to have to even think about it any more. So you quit.

I read the Alan Carr book 'Easyway' (I do not work in conjunction with any related organisations, promise!). The book is just so fantastic. I have been off cigarettes for over a year now and I had been smoking 25 a day for 16 years! It was really easy, no withdrawal problems AND best of all, I am still a size 10! Please try it, you will be amazed.
