One of our kids goes by her middle name.
Two of our nephews do too.

The only complication is that you have to tell them at school at the start of the year what name the child goes by.

ETA:
For the lady who asked why not make it the first name if that's what you want to call them.....

Sometimes it doesn't sound right that way. The names don't flow together the same way. For example, our daughter is "Isabella Kaylee" and goes by her middle name, Kaylee. "Kaylee Isabella" just didn't sound as good. Same for our nephews, "Alexander Mitchell" and "Robert Tyler" who go by their middle names.

It is the child's name, so go for it. I think it is a good option if you are having a junior so that you don't have to have Big John and Little John. And also if you like the idea of a particular knickname or eccentric name but think it may not be a name that an adult would go by, for example Alexander for a first name but then the middle name is something like Echo. That way if the child grows into a man who doesn't want to be a 40 year old Dr. Echo, he'll can go by his first name.

My parents only used my middle name if I was in a lot of trouble! If I did something to really get them squawking they would scream my first name and then my middle name .. with a big loud emphasis on the middle name! that's when I knew the walls were coming down! :)

though, some adults really prefer their middle name over their first name. So, some attorneys and other professionals use their first initial and middle name!

good luck! God bless!

I think it is going to confuse them once they get to school some teachers will only call a child by there given name and this makes life really hard on the child. If you like the middle name so much consider having it be their first name at the start or consider legally changing their name.

It's part of their name, and therefore should be used should the person want to...
I went by my middle name for years....until I decided after an extremely traumatic life event led me back to using my first and middle names together as my Mom and Dad had planned...
Some people have nic names...some use their middle names...doesn't matter...there is NO "law" that says you can only use your first name....

I see nothing wrong with it. My family does it with me. If you are going to name your child with two names, why not use one or the other - or both. As they grow up, they can decide whether the first or middle or none at all!

I know so many people who go by their first name, my fiance, my cousins husband, and a few friends. Nothing wrong with it. In these situations their first names were after someone in their family, father, uncle, ect, so they use their middle name instead, so there is no confusion.

I see nothing wrong with it! My dads name is Melvin Dean but he's been called Dean since he was born; and my Uncles name is Elvin Ray and he's been called Ray since the day he was born!

It is a well-known fact that people who use their middles names are smarter than those who use their first names.

The reason most people do not know this is that most people use their first name.

Yes, as a matter of fact I do use my middle name ;)

Any reason you chose it for a middle rather then a first or if you switched it around would you still do the same? Does not matter your choice.
