You can learn any language for free on MIT's website, open courseware. Check it out.

I wouldn't recommend going to a website its hard to piece together the information. Rosetta stone is supposed to be pretty good but i haven't tired it so i wouldn't know for sure. I'm currently learning Japanese as well because i like animes and mangas but some aren't translated. I've been using a game called "My Japanese Coach" for the Nintendo DS. So far its worked pretty well although I'm not very far but i now know colors days months numbers pronouns and can now write in hiragana and with a few more lessons katakana as well. It has been fairly easy so far however you can easily forget what you've learned if you don't practice or use it. My Japanese Coach has a few memory games so you can practice. I really like my japanese coach for its convenience it but i have to stress whether its a book a game or lessons practice or you'll forget and lose your hard work. Whatever method you use you're not going to master it or probably even be slightly fluent. you have to put it to use when your done to really be good at it. I would recommend My Japanese Coach because it does a great way of organizing everything into small lessons so you aren't overloaded and provides a way for you to practice so you don't forget. plus since its a game since there are games its a little more fun then other ways. you can get it on amazon for about 40 bucks but if you don't have a DS it gonna be more like 180.
