Do you think that Autism is the next form of evolution? I think if science can come up with a cure for some of their behavior without taking away their brilliance, we may have our next leap in all types of discoveries. Also God and evolution can co-exist as one in the same. Match up all of the evidence with the Bible and everything we've learnd so far, to me it pans out. This is only my thought.

To Autistic people all over the world this is not a ploy to bring you down or talk about your "handicap" if you allow people to say that you are slow then thats on you. I've seen some amazing stories about Autism and I didn't think that Autism was something to laugh at. So read, watch, learn of others who have Autism and maybe you'll open your eyes to what I see.
Also to people who say that God and Evolution cannot co-exist you are the dumbest person I've ever encountered on this site. The Bible (God/Gods) and Science existed together since man. Or did the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and others get it wrong which would make everything about science wrong you. Lets see,
In the Bible: there was darkness and God said Let there be light.
In Science: there was darkness and Boom the Big Bang. So people start from there and continue. Your predictable response would be: "Okay so they are similar so what?" Dig deep like you would in science to unravel this.

Since the influence of natural selection plays no part in causing autism (it could possibly be a result of genetic drift), then obviously not.
And it appears you know no more about autism than you do about evolution. Where do you get the idea that they are all "brilliant"? Did you do thorough research by watching Rain Man?

Autism is so badly maladaptive that even high-functioning autistics have a hugely difficult time building the required romantic relationships for procreation.
This is not likely to be an evolutionary direction.
Still, there is plenty that can be learned from the condition that could possibly contribute to the advancement of human capabilities.

Brendan G: I too 'enjoy' aspergers. I was literally writing computer programs at the age of 3.5 years of age and was reading at a 12th grade level by 2st grade, and post doctoral by 3rd grade.
It's great to enjoy all these esoteric things but... I think I'd give it all up to even just once watch a sports game and enjoy it and understand why people find it so fascinating. I comprehend the psychological theory of why people do, but I would love to experience it just once for myself.

No, I think we are going to integrate our technology with our bodies next.
Well a general idea of god can coexist. But science does not agree with the creation story in the Bible at all. I don't know where you get that, but read Genesis. It has plants before the Sun for petes sake.

You can't possible believe Evolution and also in God, evolution is completely wrong! Evolution can't be true, seriously they change their answers all the time, the answers they do have don't match up to each other, besides they have no evidence. Seriously 'the big bang' theory, it's all hog wash...

No I do not think autism is an evolved form. It is a defective form. And God and evolution don't work together. Evolution stands just fine all by itself.

Not all autistic people are high-functioning, and very few have exceptional abilities. Since autistic people don't have an advantage over the rest of us when it comes to surviving to reproductive age, i'd say no.

I love when IDers and Creationists point out flaws in humans to try to discredit evolution, but fail to realize that it only destroys the base of their "theory" in the process.
There is no science in the Bible... it was written and compiled to try to overthrow science.

Autism is a cognitive imparment, nothing more. And ascribing more signifigance to it--or any disability--amounts to stereotyping people with disabilities. In other words, bigotry. Your comments are not only unscientific and wrong, they are offensive to people with disabilities. You owe us an apology.

It remains to be seen if the current observed increase in the autism rate is genetic, environmental or due to better diagnosis.

Autism has no correlation to intelligence; autictsic children are no more or less intelligent than the general population
