It will show up as an opiate. It's a narcotic. If you are prescribed it and can show proof you are prescribed it then it's okay.

***Also, the guy above me is COMPLETELY wrong. Employers don't just test for illegal drugs, like cocaine or marijuana. They test for illegal drugs AND narcotics (legal drugs). Vicodin, morphine, fentanyl, valium, ativan, etc. Those will ALL show up on a drug test.

My brother was hired on the Phoenix Fire Department and had to take a drug test. He had been sick all week long and my mom gave him some of my old medicine that was sitting in their medicine cabinet. She didn't realize it contained Vicodin in it and gave it to my brother to try and help him feel better. Well guess what...it showed up on his test as an opiate and they didn't hire him. No matter how much he tried to explain it to them they didn't care. He even had our family doctor call the chief, but they have a zero tolerance on positive drug tests. Employers test you for EVERYTHING not just "street drugs".

It amazes me how ignorant people can be (not you, but some of the people who responded to your question). Employers only test for street drugs such as crank, cocaine, marijuana, PCP, etc. You have nothing to worry about. Testing you for any legal drugs is an invasion of your privacy. If I were you, I would just relax unless you are taking a drug test for a place like the NSA, FBI, Department of Justice, etc. They are a lot more strict and disclose more information to you in regards to what they actually test for.

Prescription drugs are not tested for on a standard employment drug screen and will not affect the results. If you are concerned just let the tester know that you are taking a prescription. They will either tell you what I just did or write down the name of the medication.
