my father in-law is in the hospital and the doctors said that he is not going to get any better.is my stepmother in-law responceable for taking care of his remains in the event he dies.

As long as they are legally married your stepmother in-law is the next of kin and responsible for taking care of his remains. Plus she's entitled to everything they own unless he has a will and leaves things to someone else.

Yes she is if she is his wife. Even if it is just common law if they have been together for more than 2 years
