my father in-law is in the hospital and the doctors said that he is going to get any better.is my stepmother in-law responceable for taking care of his remains in the event he dies.

technically yes. if he hadn't made any previous requests or arrangements (on paper)then she is the one who would be considered next of kin. if she is a decent person, she will allow your husband and any of his siblings have a say in the matter.

Yes, she is his next of kin. Yes she is responsible unless she has absolutely no money. Then the state takes care of his remains.

Yes, if they're legally married it is her unfortunate responsibility. If he made a will, requesting what should be done with the remains then that's what has to be done.
