Microdermabrasion:
(often referred to as Microderm) is a cosmetic procedure popular in day spas, doctors' practices, and medical spas, in which the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin) is partially or completely removed by light abrasion. Different methods include mechanical abrasion from jets of zinc oxide or aluminum oxide crystals, fine organic particles, or a roughened surface. Particles and removed material are vacuumed off through the wand/handpiece through which the abrasive particles come [1]. Microdermabrasion is used to remove sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen scars and dark spots on the skin. The procedure is not very painful and requires no anaesthetic. Microdermabrasion can be used medically for scar removal when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin, but is less effective with sunken scars. There is very little, if any, evidence that microdermabrasion stimulates collagen formation. Microdermabrasion can also be used for treatment of acne, but must be repeated periodically to be effective.
Chemical peeling:
A body treatment technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the skin to blister and eventually peel off. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. Thus the term chemical peel is derived. Some types of chemical peels can be purchased and administered without a medical license, however it is advised you seek professional help from a plastic surgeon or dermatologist on a specific type of chemical peel before a procedure is performed.

They kind of do the same thing... resurface the skin, but by using different peeling agents. Microdermabrasion uses micro crystals to abrade the skin, chemical peels use special acids for the same purpose: to diminish and remove skin imperfections, like acne scars, fine lines, age spots, stretch marks, clogged and enlarged pores. The difference between the two treatments is that microdermabrasion is less invasive (it exfoliates only a few microns of skin), thus having less dramatic results. Chemical peels on the other hand exfoliate a bit deeper, removing deeper skin imperfections.

Microdermabrasion and chemical peeling both remove the "old skin" cells for your face. By doing this it allows your face to be cleaner and "newer." I've had it done multiple times and it really does make your face feel "newer."

What everyone says above, it speeds up the process of exfoliating skin and I used to get it done often :) The treatments were like $100 each, and since my skin quality is already really nice, I decided to not have it done so often, but it will really remove any flakes and give you a very rosy, healthy glow. I think the older you are, the more of a difference you can see :)
