As a Muslim i find it hard sometime to express what Islam means, only because i can not put it into words. i spent the whole week trying to write something about how Islam effects me and how i interpret Islam personally and all i could conger up is basically nothing to mention !!.
maybe because i am not that religious or because i don't know enough to express what i truly believe.
IF you are a Muslim , what would you say Islam means to you , and what would you say about the injustice that is happening in the world ( women's rights, death,..... )
If you are not a Muslim, what do you think of Islam , how does it affect you , and please i am not talking about the terrorism and all the issues connected to that !. if you actually know what Islam is then i am more than happy to hear what you have to say
THANKS

I am a christian. Islam represents a non-peaceful religion to me. True...a small sect of it has given it a bad name (9-11)....but other than that.....it represents everything that is anti-Christ.

Well, I just recently reverted so I'm still new. However, this is what Islam means to me.

The Quran helps me into becoming a better Muslim. For me, that is great, because before I was a Muslim, I committed many grievous sins. Now I am free of those sins and I know how to behave. Islam is a way of life and it turns me into a better person. One is who free of hatred and filled with love towards other people.

Islam gives me a peaceful feeling knowing that I'm in the hands of Allah and He will take care of me. The guidance that I receive from the Quran helps me to make the correct choices in life to please Allah.

Islam helps me into protecting my rights as a woman. Being a Muslim woman means being treated like a jewel when the man is a true Muslim. It is a shame that many men are not following the correct way of Islam.

For in the injustice that is occurring everywhere in this world such as poverty, starving people, crimes well you get the my drift. I can pray to Allah that he will take care of these things.
Also, as a Muslim, I'm supposed to help others.

Allah bless you.

I am muslim too... and yeah it is kindaa hard to explain it to others becuase they think of it as unpeaceful and unfair and whatever they say ..... but actually ive learned tht Islam is a very open religion ... all based on your decision ... before i never wore a hijab as a muslim women in society ... but i realized by wearing the hijab i become more a women ... if i go out and reveal my hair and skin ... im just going to be like any other body walking around .. right? ... so in islam every rule and guidance is for a reason .. Allah has soo much to give ... this life is called Dunya ... temporary ... its like when you take a test in sschool ... you dont go to the teachers and say " oh mrs. .. for question four i think the answer is letter A ... even though you told me each incorrect anwser will be given points offf.. i dont care !" .. same with islam ... you cannot commit sin and bend islam to you state of life .. no acceptions..and its not like Allah doesnt give you chances .. he does and he everyday more and more oppurtunities to becoming a better muslim show up .. we just never notice them .. well at least i never did..... what a Muslim is to pursue and live on is written sraight forward inthe Quran ... and Islam is not just a religion ... it is a lifestyle .... i personally had to change every aspect of the way i lived .... i didnt wear hijab .. i used to care less about the five prayers ... didnt know arabic .... but then someone said you are muslim ? .. wow you dont act muslim ..... and i though to myself hey ... being am muslim just doesnt mean to ignore the religion and go on with life ... it means to act as a muslim .. believe as a muclim think as a muslim .. and most of all ... be ready to give up your life for Allah at any given time ..... so, i turned eveything around for myself ... stopped the nonsense .... and become what the truth is ... wore hijab ... read my prayers five times a day , fasting , fitna, .... im not perfect but i try ... all the things tht look cool like music .. i honestly use to love music in all shapes and formes ... i used to love fashion .. living in the city ... all the materials ... but Shatan makes all the nonsense look beautiful .. and its doing a good job at it .. because i also began to love the stuff an ordinary non muslim loves and forgot about my true values ... but we are better then Shatan .... and its never too late .... its okay to not be religious .. you are acting on your oppurtuinty right now by asking and being concerned .... Inshallah with the Allah's help you too will be able to see what the truth is . :) srry for the length .... Salma

I am studying Islam and my husband is Muslim. I deeply respect Islam and feel that it offers truth I could find in no other place. My husband is a wonderful man and his religion has taught him how to treat the women in his life with love, honor and respect. I am very sad about how misunderstood Islam really is, and I resent those who use Islam as their excuse for bad behavior. True Muslims are good people, loving, patient and tolerant. Studying Islam and being married to a Muslim man have brought peace and love into my life.

The 5 Pillars of Islam a million) Shahadah = acknowledgement that there is one God and that Muhhamad is His very final and maximum serious messenger, 2) Salah = prayer 3) Zakah = alms to the needy 4) Sawm = fasting 5) Hajj = pilgrimage to Makkah (Mecca) if in a position. the 1st pillar problems me by way of fact asserting that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is God's maximum suitable and extremely final prophet is confrontational, it prevents further revelation/evolution and that's blasphemously fake. --- Assalamu'alaikum

To me, Islam means submitting to the will of Allah. This means praying 5 times a day, for starters. I'm also starting to learn how to speak, read, and write Arabic so as to read the Qur'an in it's original form. I think that as far as women's rights go, many people get the wrong idea that women are treated as second-class citizens. In truth, women have equal rights as men, and in some cases even have more control over men then men do them. Example: If a man wants to take a second wife, he must first receive permission from his first wife to have a second wife. If she refuses, then he cannot marry again. If a husband and wife get divorced, the husband cannot re-marry until the wife has had another marriage AND divorce.

Now, as far as how most of the West views Islam:
Many people only see the Al-Qaeda and Shi'a and all the violence carried out "in the name of Allah." Even as a Muslim myself, I stand firmly against these radical groups of the Middle East; in fact I stand against anyone who would kill any innocents, women, children, and elderly.

The Qur'an says:
[2.190] And fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you, and do not exceed the limits, surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits.
[2.191] And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.
[2.192] But if they desist, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
[2.193] And fight with them until there is no persecution, and religion should be only for Allah, but if they desist, then there should be no hostility except against the oppressors.

Which means to only fight in self-defence and when your enemy wishes to have peace and lays down his weapons, then we should lay down our weapons and grant peace.

Side note:
I was raised in an Irish/Italian Catholic family in New Jersey, within 20 minutes of the WTC attacks. I have overcome whatever Western influences and media have tried to tell me about Islam and only within the last month have I converted to Islam. It's amazing what a little understanding can do when you look beyond what the media tries to spoon-feed people.

As-Salaamu Alaykum

It pains me to see how the god of Muhammad demands so much ritual from his adherents. As if God needed anything.

Jesus Christ came to free mankind from that very thing. He said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and loaded down with burdens, and I will give you rest. Place my yoke on you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is pleasant, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)

The yoke is not light for the Muslim. They are trapped into meeting the heavy demands of a cruel taskmaster. Meeting the requirements of the five pillars is nearly impossible. And even the most devout Muslim has no guarantee of heaven, apart from Jihad.

It grieves my soul to see so many having such a heavy yoke to bear, and this because they reject Jesus as Lord and Savior. And after trying to live by these demands, not getting what they seek, as far as heavenly rewards, is intolerable.

It breaks my heart.
