I'm gonna buck the trend here and say that we should have continued in Vietnam until we defeated the communists. We were one the right side there. Had we won Vietnam, history would have been entirely different. We would probably not be fighting islamists today. After VN, America was seen as weak, with no resolve to fight. It affected decisions that were made by later enemies, including the terrorists who took our embassy staff hostage in Iran, as well as the USSR and Communist China. If they had calculated our reaction differently, Iran would not have fallen to ahmaweeniejob (who was a leader of the hostage takers back then) and Ayotollah Khomieni. Russia quite possibly would not have invaded Afghanistan, fearful that we would react to it and beat them again (Russia was who we were really fighting in VN). Bin Laden would still be a nobody, sitting in a Saudi palace somewhere. With a completely different Iran, there would never have been an Iran Iraq war, and Saddam would have fallen in a coup by his own people long ago (the war is what kept his people loyal to him and allowed him to slaughter his own people). and much, much more.

Korea was the first limited war fought not to win, but to police, now that's the only kind of war we fight. It doesn't settle anything and leaves your enemy in power. If you're going to sacrifice lives, at least play to WIN!

I can tell you there was one for sure. I didn't want to go, but did. I'm still paying for it. Should we have been there? Probably not; but you could ask the same about the current mess in Iraq.

That happened too long ago for me to remember, I'm only 14. But I heard John Kerry won 34,922 Purple Hearts there.
