There have been recent smoking bans in resturants in my state (Arkansas). I'm sure this is happening everywhere. And as a non-smoker and mother of two I'm happy about it. I was just wondering how some other people were feeling about it.

NOTE: Please specify weather you're a smoker or non-smoker.

I'm thrilled with any banning of smoking. At work, I go to leave the building and go to my car, and I have to walk through a cloud of smoke. The smokers don't even get out of your way, and then your clothes smell the rest of the day. It's a disgusting habit, but worse, it's horrible for your health. I can't tell you growing up the number of girls I thought looked cute and then I was immediately repulsed by seeing them light up a cigarette.

NON-SMOKER

I'm a smoker, but, trying to quit.

I think it's a good thing. The bans have already taken effect in my province, but, now they're talking about telling smokers that they can't be within 10 feet of a public building. Now, come on ... that's getting a bit ridiculous. While in a store, I've never seen smoke coming in the establishment ... from outside. Lol .... what's next ... ship all smokers to the moon?

I am a former smoker. I quit smoking because of a lung ailment and two doctors directly telling me to quit or expect a shortened life. So for me smoking is over. I am exposed to second hand smoke on occasion. I have relatives that continue to smoke with the ever increasing cost. I am pleased that it is constantly being eliminated from society.

Smoking is bad, ok. I'm pleased with the direction to prevent smoking in Restraunts. We are doing the same thing in Oklahoma.

Non-smoker from California - personally I miss the smell. It is a memory for me. My mom used to waitress and I would sit in the restaurant and draw or do homework and the smell of the food and smoke as well as the mingled voices it is comforting. restaurants today are sterile and characterless. You go - you eat - you leave-very dull. No one lingers over coffee and just chatters like the old smoking days. I know every argument but what good is any of it if no one lingers to enjoy any of it.

I am a non-smoker and we have non-smoking everything in California.

I think it is a good thing but I disagree with all the penalties everyone is assigning to the tobacco companies. Just because cigarettes are harmful tobacco shouldn't pick up the tab. If that was the case they should go after alcohol for its harmful effects and then they'd have to go after sugar for its harmful effect to diabetics. And then they'd have to go after lard companies for it's harmful effects. Etc, etc, etc....
