Study the subject, have a good night sleep before the exam, and try to stay focused. There is no real magical formula. You have to study and pay attention in class.

Pay attention in class. Understand the work you're doing, or get help from the teacher or a tutor until you do. If you're comfortable with what you learned, no test is going to show otherwise.

However, if you have test anxiety that can make it hard to communicate what you know. Relax and focus on the exam, and try your best. If you find you have difficulty concentrating while others are nearby, you might make arrangements with your teacher for a private room to take the test in.

If you know your stuff and avoid test anxiety, the tests are easy.

Study all along, do not wait until just before the exam. Take notes that make sense to you. Even if your teacher does not assign the questions at the end of chapters, look at them and ask yourself if you could answer them. On the exam look at the questions and make sure you try to answer all of them. If you do not have time to, make sure you are answering the questions with the most points first. I have seen too many students waste too much time on one point questions and ignore ten and twenty point questions.

Attend all classes, pay attention to and take notes from the lectures, read all assigned material and make notes from it, do all homework assignments, and the day before the exam review your notes. If you haven't learned the material during the semester you won't learn it from cramming just before the exam.
