In some states, slapping your wife with a salted ham is still kind of winked at, but beating her can get you in a lot of trouble, obviously these people wouldn't carry favor with the community anymore if they were known for domestic violence. I personally wouldn't meat any woman who didn't specifically ask for it.

Don't people of all religions and even atheists "meat their wives."
The rule is no meat-ing until after your married!

It hurts a lot less than beating them with their fists. Just throw your cold cuts at them.
