I would say massage therapy-why? Massage therapist for two years, its the best thing for back pain Ive ever seen. Too many people "go under the knife" without being consulted on what, exactly, their muscles are doing. Unless you have severely torn something (there might be bruising with such a thing) masaage should fix you up just fine.

If you try massage and there is too much pain you should see a doctor, as always. I'm hoping that you didnt tear anything. Make sure the therapist knows what they are doing-ask questions!! a "newbie" might make you worse off, or even waste your money by not doing enough.

Good luck!

It would be your best bet to visit a local chiropractor. They will usually complete a new patient exam that can help them locate where your pain is spurring from. If you are scared of the "cracking" that comes with a chiropractor, most of them will allow you to have a basic consult with no cracking and just explain to you what he can do for you.

A general chiropractor cannot prescribe pain killers, so don't expect drugs. The usually will recommend ice packs and/or heat. Have you ever tried Biofreeze? If you can find a chiropractor that sells it - ask for a sample, it is amazing stuff on pain and aching areas!!!

Be careful usuing any kind of heat. Heating aching muscles can actually inflame them worse even if it feels good. ICE ICE ICE is the best way to reduce swelling and inflamation. Switching from one to the other can also be beneficial.

Sometimes if the chiropractor doesn't feel that he can help you, he will refer you to a doctor.

Good luck!

Pain can be referred from places other than the head. This deals with headaches but the principle works for all kinds of pain.
Muscles get knots called trigger points. These make the muscles tight causing them to press on nerves and other thing.
#1 The first thing is to take a couple swigs of molasses or eat a couple of bananas. They contain magnisium and potassium both of which muscles need.
#2 WATER she should be drinking 1/2 gallon minimum. The head of neurology at UCDavis likens a body running low on water to a car running low on oil (the engine can seize).
Get a good (deep tissue) massage (to loosen the trigger points) on the back, shoulders and neck. Make sure to press up at the base of the skull where it meets the spine.
You rub or lightly scratch everywhere on your head. You will hit spots that are tender these are trigger points. The idea is to rub across them 6-12 times per session up to six times per day until they go away.
For more information on trigger points read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

I would recommend seeing a chiropractor right away. However, most of the time back pain is caused by stress. Try relaxing by using breathing techniques and even yoga.

There is no med in this world to treat it. Acupuncture is the only treatment otherwise surgery.
You have not given other details. If it is acute we can treat it within 10 mins. You approach acupuncturist, may it be acute or chronic, he will treat it.
If there is disc problem then surgery might be essential.
