The classic branding for regular Coca-Cola was used since the new taste of Coca-Cola (renamed later Coca-Cola II) failed to live up.

Coca-Cola "Classic" is only marketed in the US and Canada. New Coke was introduced April 23, 1985 in the US in an attempt to regain market share against Pepsi. However the plan with the new formula backfired and the Coca-Cola Company quickly brought back the original formula - rebranding it as Coca-Cola "Classic" on July 10, 1985. Both "New Coke" and "Coke Classic" continued to be sold concurrently. In 1992, New Coke was rebranded as Coke II in some markets in the continental US and it was last sold in 1995. However sales of Coke II continued in Saipan until the late 1990s. Coca-Cola Classic continues to be sold as the top brand in the US and Canada today. The Canadian version is bilingual (English and French). In addition, the same unit of the Coca-Cola Company - Coca-Cola North America (CCNA) handles the marketing for both the US and Canada. The largest distributor in North America - Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) handles bottling and distribution in most of US and Canada as well.
