I do not use the swear words myself that they have been using. I know that their Dad swears a lot and they hear a lot of it at school.

whenever a child says a swear word, the duty of a parent is to give the child a tight slap.i know this sounds really harsh but mordern day kids can get fine only with a bit of a beating,or a scolding.never slap your child unless u scold him/her twice.yes,u hav to scold your child the first time, the second time, third time must be a warning, fourth time a tight slap.my mom scolds me if i say something dirty or use a swear word but she scolded me twice and now before saying a swear word i think twice.i am sure your kids will stop swearing.

all the best!!!!

A "cuss" jar works for some families. I agree with the comment that swearing shows a lack of ability to choose more intelligent expression. You can try asking Dad to watch his language, but it is a hard habit to break and he might not be willing, even for the kids.

First you need to let your husband know that he has to stop swearing in front of the kids, and tell the kids that if they continue to swear you will put them in time out or you will take something away from them that they enjoy; ex: a toy, TV, etc.

How old are the kids? What worked with my teens was explaining to them that swearing is a huge advertisement to the world that they lack the intelligence to choose more appropriate words.

I don't set as my goal with my stepchildren the ultimate end of swearing. I think it serves a better lesson in the long-term to focus on making them think about appropriate behavior in each time and place.

If they swear in our house, they have to clean around themselves within a 10 foot diameter imaginary circle. It worked almost instantaneously--especially since their father and I did it too.

If you hear a swear word, you need to instantly react to it and punish them, get angry at them for doing this, ground them, etc. This is called dis-respect. The old fashioned way is to get a bar of soap and wash their mouth out, and then after that all you need to do is threaten to do that.

I would suggest giving them a warning that if they swear again you will take away a priviledge whether it's staying up later, playing video games or watching tv...I find that threatening to take something away and actually going through with it works the best...

I had a brother and sister work for me once. Both were married and had kid's. We had a lunch at the office, kid's and mom's were all there. Mom #1 said the "f" word once while driving with 3 y/o Mikey in the car. He picked up on it immediately ! Mom #2 has a daughter , 6 y/o. I asked daughter if she hangs out with uncle Mikey. She said "yes". I had to ask..."Learn any new words lately ?" You never saw two moms blush so much. !

Sit em down and make him say the swear words over and over, like a hundred times, until they lose their novelty and the kid can see it has no shock efffect on you.
