Like one of the posters said roll with it. Roberto Duran was excellent at rolling with a punch. If you can pick up some of his fights you can watch the way nothing lands clean.

Also if you are fighting someone who is a good body puncher. If you know he is aiming at the liver you can pivot off your left foot and move your right foot back while he is punching to reduce the impact.

In general see the punch. Roll with the punch. Be careful of stepping into a punch. The most spectacular knockouts come when one fighter is moving in while another is punching. It is like a ball off a bat. The faster the pitch will produce a harder hit all other things equal.

Of course if you have a boxing glove you can put the glove in front of your face to absorb the blow.

The best way to take a punch is to put your hands down by your waist like and stick your head out. Its also better to sortof push your face forward with some momentum as the punch is being thrown at you. The two forces together will contribute to greater momentum and a higher level of impact, so it will be better for your overall health.

I agree with "gotabedifferent" it is best not to be there when the punch arrives, if you are you must take it the best way you, try to get back focused as soon as you can, so you protect your self, if you have sparred alot, you should have gotten hit by now, you take and you go on fighting.

If you are taking the punch to the face, you want to be looking when it happens. If you are not expecting it, that's when you get knocked out. Keep your mouth closed, if your mouth is open your jaw will be loose and can cause you to knock out easier and it could also break.

Roll with it. Don't stand firm, move your body away from the punch to lessen the impact.
