I have a question for the religious people. Why do you pray? If God (or Allah, or whatever) has full knowledge of everything then he knows you have faith or you don't. You can't really tell him anything he doesn't already know, right? If you're praying for your disease to go away, he already knows you're faithful and you want the disease to go away before you start whispering to him about, right?

Because they believe God has instructed them to pray, and they choose to follow God's instructions.

I don't know, but there's nothing more annoying than telling someone that you're about to have major surgery and all they have to say back to you is, "I'll have my prayer circle pray for you." I am the biggest athiest there is, although I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school for 9 years. I find organized religion nothing but hypocracy and sometimes even seems like a "my god is better than your god" competition. I don't think there is anything wrong with believing that there is some kind of higher power, but when people base every decision they make on "what would Jesus do" then why bother. Were we put on the planet to question ourselves and to feel guilty about whether or not we will be pure enough to go to heaven? I don't know, I just have a really hard time with the topic of religion because everyone thinks that THEY are right, period, because "that's what the bible says!"

Praying does nothing. Lets all pray to cure cancer...oh sorry cant do that...lets just kill off half the population. Lets pray to cure aids...stds. Oh sorry let them all die..praying is pointless. But if it makes the person feel better then so be it. But when something bad happens such as all the natural disasters dont pray for them. Go over there and help them send money, send supplies. They dont need you to pray they need you to help..think I got off track some but either way...

Edit.
People stop saying "its a talk among two good friends" you are not friend with go..infact friends takes two people to talk. You are talking to god (figment of your imagination) he is not talking to you (I would hope) so its not a conversation. Its you talking in your head or out loud.

Well the bible does explan and go into detail on this. God wants to be asked. He knows your every needs, but it makes him happy that you ask him for it. Praying is also not always about asking, it can be just a good talk between 2 good friends.

Yes, you are right. But religious taught people to pray is to put down yourself pride and give them hope. Without pray people do not know how to fulfil his need when there is helpless.

The purpose for prayer is to praise, to seek out help, to humble ourselves, to have a relationship with God, to show trust, and faith. God does know the desires of our hearts, because he puts them there. He wants us to come to him with our problems, instead of trying to manage them on our own.

coz you talk to ppl on earth so it makes sense to want to talk to the God that created you if yu think about it that way. surely your bound to want to thank God for things He's done in your life. also, its not like God needs our prayers but it helps us to remember God in everything and kkep in contact with Him. God does already know what we're gna pray, you're right, but we might not know that we need to pray for the situation so when we do pray it shows that we cant go through things by ourselves and need to rely on God.

You pray in order to bring yourself closer to God, not just to get things.

And if God already knows what you are going to ask - then think about it - God already knows if you are NOT going to ask him, too. The Bible makes it clear that sometimes God does something just because he knows that someone, somewhere, will ask him to.

Well think about it this way sometimes someone you love knows you need help but will not help you because they don't want to interfere in your life, and they wait by the side until you ask for help, same thing with talking to a friend about something in your life they may know all about it but you talking to them brings you closer together.

Because God tells us prayer affects and pleases Him. We don't know how but I am all for anything that pleases God
