At times I become so timid/shy, discouraged, and depressed. I want to know prayers which I can recite in order to gain back my strength and hope. You may include the lives of the Saints who made the prayers or are associated with them.

I would look to St. Jude. I would also suggest you look into different saints lives yourself. You can learn a lot more from good books than you can from this forum. Finally I will tell you that we do not need to memorize prayers. It really is the thought that counts. True enough that there are already many beautiful prayers some even written by saints. But it is what in your heart that matters. I often invent my own and they are as valid as any that were preformulated. God is a very cool individual and not hung up on silly legalisms. I really am Roman Catholic BTW. I know some people in this forum like to mock us and or answer for us. I am truly seeking to help you out. Peace be with you.

In addition to some of the excellent answers above, remember the psalms of the Bible. Some are wonderful.

Here is the beginning of Psalm 91:

You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,
Say to the LORD, "My refuge and fortress,
my God in whom I trust."
God will rescue you from the fowler's snare,
from the destroying plague,
Will shelter you with pinions,
spread wings that you may take refuge;
God's faithfulness is a protecting shield.
You shall not fear the terror of the night
nor the arrow that flies by day,
Nor the pestilence that roams in darkness,
nor the plague that ravages at noon.
Though a thousand fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
near you it shall not come.
You need simply watch;
the punishment of the wicked you will see.
You have the LORD for your refuge;
you have made the Most High your stronghold.
No evil shall befall you,
no affliction come near your tent.

With love in Christ.

Prayer for the Protection of Saint Raphael The Archangel

O God who in Thy ineffable goodness hast rendered blessed Raphael the conductor of thy faithful in their journeys, we humbly implore Thee that we may be conducted by him in the way of salvation, and experience his help in the maladies of our souls. Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Saint Raphael is also known as Angel of Joy or Angel of Love. He is an angel who cured a mans blindness. He is traditionally a travellers saint but also a saint for people who are depressed or otherwise troubled. His name means God has healed. I thought this would be a relatively short prayer for you to learn but also one that is adaptable to your life. A journey need not always be a physical one but also an emotional or mental one. Who better to have by your side when you're feeling low than an Angel.

Take up praying the Rosary. Even if you just prayed a decade of the Rosary a day, so long as you don't slack off, you will notice a difference.

YOU SHOULDNT HAVE TO NOW OR RECITE ANY PRAYERS.....PRAY FROM YOUR HEART.
God wants you to pray...there is no systematic way of doing it.....just pray!there is no reason to be shy,timid,depressed(especiallydepressed)or discouraged when wanting to pray.
all that is religious talk!!!!!!
