If you are not in the US, this is no help.
www.rootsweb.com click on searches, and go to social security death index. This has all deaths in the US since approx. 1960. If your father has common name, you may need to match it to date of birtth. Use google for the name of the state and vital statistics office. There will be a fee of maybe $20 for it.
The place where last benefits were sent is normally the place of death. As long as you have your birth certificate proving you are his child, you should be eligible to order it from the state office.
Looks like everyone assumed that you know when and where he died.

Go to goggle search and type in Death Certificate it will offer you a lot of sites. I believe there is one called Vital Check or something like that. It's a very easy site to follow. The certificate is not free, I believe it's about $18.00, but worth it if you ask me.
You'll need exact name, date of death and county of death.
Good luck

Make enquiries at your local Registry Office to see if they can be of any help. If they cannot help you, at least they will be able to point you in the right direction. Some local Newspapers offer to obtain copies of death certificates. You could try that too. Good luck.
