more than 50% of people now living without a spouse. People have no idea how to build relationships anymore, they have no idea how to honor a commitment made before friends, family, and God. How can God not be totally shaking his head at the fact that we have managed to completely screw up His beautiful creation of marriage?

If you do not belive in God, I understand your dislike for my question/statement. Why people get offended and sharp regarding such statments is beyond me. This is my belief, if your belief differs, that is fine, but there's no need for insulting comments.

DerekB. I'm convinced this is because people in general: liberals and conservatives alike, even religious people, have no clue what marriage is about anymore,
the reason?
We are spoiled, we are not going to take crap and just put up and shut up, it's easier just to get a divorce.
NO one EVER said marriage was easy. On the contrary, it's VERY, VERY hard.
People have this idyllic view of marriage being a walk in the park and everything being perfect forever, (movies and media perhaps? clouding our perspective with bullsht???)
when it's not, and it won't be, it never is, the crap hits the fan and they get a knee jerk divorce.
Old couples you see who have been together for 60+ years have gone through any number of these or ALL of them through the duration of their marriage: Abuse, Infidelity, Alcoholism, Gambling, Etc.'
It's about commitment. People don't know what that word means.
It means Staying together NO MATTER WHAT>
People have a misunderstanding these days that says well, commitment means they will never lie, never cheat, never mistreat, and will cooperate...I don't know where they got this from, but it's a lie.
.When it's not perfect, they get a divorce, because they are looking for a relationship which does NOT EXIST and never will in reality.

Marriage was created in a time when people got married at 14 or 15 years old, women were incapable of supporting themselves, and people only lived on average to be 40.
If God wanted everyone to get married and stay married for their entire lives, he wouldn't have enabled us to live so long. Its just not natural.

My gf and I aren't married (even though I call her my wife sometimes).
This is our 15th year living together.
We have two beautiful and healthy kids who are well-balanced and are capable to make good moral decisions based on reason.
And both of us come from families where there was marriage with little or no relationship. Yet we are still in love.
In fact I'm going to e-mail her a love message right now. Thanks for the reminder.

Now I'm shaking MY head at the unbridled ignorance you're displaying. Please do some research.
God didn't create marriage... it wasn't created as a religious ritual. It was created as a business transaction between landowners.
Besides which, perhaps the 50% living without a spouse PREFER it that way. Just because you're alive doesn't mean that finding a mate is mandatory.
Kindly stop implying that your worldview needs to be imposed on everyone.

So you prefer people to get into marriages that don't work and be unhappy and provide a horrible environment for their kids that they don't even want? I'd say staying single is the best way not to "screw up His beautiful creation of marriage."

I totally agree Derek. People make more of a commitment when they buy a car.

Just remember--He hates our sin, but He never stops loving us. He is waiting for us to come to Him and live a life that is pleasing to Him.

I'm married but I'm an atheist. Do you think I count?
Anyway, atheists have lower divorce rates than Christians. Perhaps God would benefit from more people becoming atheists, what do you think?

Marriage was never beautiful. It was usually a contract between families or villages.
