Yesterday my doctor suspects I have kidney stones, which makes sense of course, but I have a couple questions about them for people who have had them....

Two days ago, all the sudden, it hurt like heck when I peed and a little blood came out....this continued through the night and through yesterday morning then it started getting better. I went to the doc last night and was negative for infections so he thought kidney stones and is running test on my blood and urine.

In the meantime I am wondering, was that it? Is it done after that? Has anyone with Kidney stones had this happen? I have no back paid or side pain or anything other than urinating pain and blood...but that has since stopped or appears that way....Im just wondering has anyone had that and then the BIG hits or am I in the clear here?????

Update for "thinking"

my first thought was a UTI, I never had one so I wouldnt know, but my wife has and that was her thoughts as well...

The doc did say he was going to send the urine in for more test and if it did show a infection he would call in meds for me.

He then said if its still like that in 2 to 3 days to come back and they will do a ct scan.

Depends....were they really kidney stones? That's important to know.

Sometimes people can have them once, then never again. Other times, people are subject to them because of poor hydration (drink, drink, drink) or just the way their urinary tract processes uric acid.

Generally, kidney stones cause debilitating pain in your flanks (sides just above your buttocks, radiating up to ribs) enough to double you over. Many people describe it as the worst pain they've ever experienced... and generally, it occurs without concomittant pain with urination.

I am interested that you had a negative UTI result. The most common side effect of a UTI (urinary tract infection) is pain with urination, and esp. blood in the urine (hematuria). I would strongly question those results, just to make sure nothing grew out of the culture at 24 or 48 hours.

You may have had a UTI that your body was able to overcome with its own defenses, although by the time you have pain/blood, an infection has become fairly overwhelming for your body's own defenses.

Update.

I had pain on my right lower back for about 5 minutes and then it quit, I went to the bathroom and peed a blood clot. 2 weeks later I had that pain again but it lasted for 2 hours and it quit while I was at the doctors office. My test showed an infection and blood in my urine. When I got home I peed a kidney stone. It didn't hurt when it came out though. But before I went to the doctor I took this home rememdy that everyone says works to get the kidney stone out. 2 ounces of olive oil and 2 ounces of lemon juice. Mix it together and drink it all followed by a glass of water. My stone came out less then 2 hours after I drank that.

As matter of fact I went to the D.R. Monday he specializes in Adult and Pediatric Urology. Kidney, bladder and etc: He found blood in my urine. So, I'm my way for CT-SCAN he's looking for kidney, gall, and tumors in my bladder. I'm like you I have no back pain or side pain either. You can pass kidney and gall bladder stones on your. Depending on the size of the stone it can be painful i heard. Sometimes you need surgery. I hope your okay. I'm scared gotta go for my test. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

You didn't have a UTI (it is common in females as compared to females), passage of stone and blood in pee is very common in teens and early manhood. You must had Jack stones which is multi faceted, hence passing through the urinary tract you felt pain and hematuria. It was a small stones (as small dogs bark the most), it negotiated out. Urine d/r will show numerous RBC + 2-4 puscells, if you had UTI it would have been the other way round. if your stone was superimposed by UTI there would be pus cells and rbc in numerous amount in urine. Don't do a IVP in acute phase of disease. Now see your urologist.

I've had kidney stones twice, and it never hurt to pee. All the pain I experienced was when the stone traveled from the kidney to the bladder. It felt like superman kicked me in the nuts and continued to hurt for like two hours. In my experience, once the kidney stone completed it's journey to the bladder, the pain and discomfort were gone. I didn't even notice when I passed them.

Your stone could have been passed without you knowing it or it is lodged somewhere in your urinary system usually the bladder. You need an IVP xray or a CT Scan.. Good luck. This is the norm for the way kidney stones present in the ER but man they sure suck don't they?
