I had an ex boyfriend who never trusted me throughout the relationship and one my friends told me, "never trust anyone that doesn't trust you." why not?

If they don't trust you, they won't tell you everything...if anything, and consequently there will be no trust...not a good policy.

This isn't true in all cases, but when a boyfriend doesn't trust you then he is probably doing wrong and i think that's what your friend was trying to say.

It means he's doing something sneaky himself, he doesn't trust you because the guilt he feels over what he's doing makes him get defensive and paranoid, basically he'll accuse you first to avoid being accused by you. Your friend is definitely right.
