Why are you joining the Army? If your goal is to help your country, you sign up for what can help the most. Besides, as a translator, you're most likely not going to be 'in the trenches' but back in a building somewhere.

If you go as another MOS, you could end up driving a truck through dangerous territory. In other words, it might be even riskier.

I agree with the militray intelligence. Great oppurtunities arise after service with that background, like NSA (best one). Nothing wrong with being a regular soldier either. Follow what you are really interetsed in and go form there. Take advantage of your language speaking though, but most importantly, follow YOUR dreams, wants needs and desires.

If your friend can't speak English I would rather she kept off the road as she won't be able to read directions or instructions or follow the lawful instructions of a police officer.

Military Intelligence. The translator MOS probably comes with a pretty decent enlistment bonus. Good luck.

Ordinary soldiers can still get caught in the mess.

As a female translator, you will more than likely be put in charge of dealing with the female civilians.

I'd take the danger. Our troops and military are in desperate need of Arabic speaking comrades. You could do a huge amount of good there. But, you have to do what your heart tells you to do. Either way, thank you for protecting my freedom.

Thats easy. Go into Intelligence, that extra language will open up countless jobs in 3 letter agencies such as CIA,NSA,FBI when you get out.

If you're a female and speak Arabic, don't join the military. Become a contractor interpreter. If you hold US citizenship, you could make GREAT money.

My terp is making nearly $100,000. She goes on patrols with us and everything.

If you're a translator, chances are you wouldn't see any fighting. They'd have you doing your thing in some air conditioned building.
