Tell a loved one what you're doing. Or a trusted adult. Tell them that every time you cut yourself, it's because of this or that reason. Then, go see a doctor who can tell you where to go from there. You don't have to live in pain and depression. And after you have come to grips with why you cut, get inolved in your schoo land community. If you do something good for your community or academically, you will feel better about yourself and meet people who will like you because you're a good person.

Self mutilation is typically a control issue. Typically those that cut themselves are able to control there feelings and emotions through the cutting. This is done by the pain of cutting interfering with the thought processes on the feeling/emotions prior to cutting. It also is often associated with controlling the feelings of fear and anxiety. It basically becomes a learned coping mechanism to help you cope with the stressors or feelings that are difficult to manage on a daily basis. Some people cut alot, others do it sporatically. I've listed some websites below, and the first one actually has a survey you can take to assess yourself in this issues. I would highly recommend counseling. There are many agencies that provide services based on a sliding scale.

I've heard that people who cut themselves get a rush out of it (for some reason or another). I think perhaps, you can't deal with your problems (avoiding resolving it) or don't know how to deal with it properly (punishing yourself for something that may or may not be your fault).
My advice is to seek help, talk to a therapist and see if they can show you how to overcome the obstacles life throws at you, safely. If you don't seek help now, I don't think it will get any better unless you want to stop (cold turkey). Make the best out your life and seek some help.

If you can't stop on your own then it's best to seek professional help.
Alternatively join a support group, or have a friend help you. It's alot easier when you have someone elce helping or encouraging you.
Don't feel discouraged if you cant quit cold-turky, just take it a day at a time.

The best way is to subsitute something for cutting.
The best way i find is exercise, because when you feel pain your body releases endorphin's to dim the pain, but some people find this addicting.
Your body releases endorphins when you exercise too.
