I started feeling sick yesterday. I'm not any better today so I didn't work out this morning. I just wondered whether most people take it easy when they're sick, or have a 'no excuses' policy when it comes to exercise?

I don't go to the gym when I am sick. Your body needs rest and if you don't give in, it is just going to be worse.
Don't go workout till you feel better and do only what you feel good in doing. Within a week, you will be back where you were before you got sick.

Just how "sick" is "sick"? If I'm flat out in bed for some reason, then, no, I don't go exercise. If it's just a minor headache or sinus congestion, I will go. When you're sick, your body is sending you an important message to take things easy ... working up a sweat isn't taking things easy.

When you are sick, your body is devoting all of it's energy to making you well again. Not only will working out make you even more tired, but it will inhibit your body from doing it's job of healing.

Take it easy for a few days. Eat light and healthy. Take a small walk outside if the weather is nice, just in your front yard, not up the street and back. Your body will tell you when it's time to get working again.Until then, just take care of yourself!

depends what you mean by "sick". A flu heats you up anyways and exercise isnt a good idea, except in light moderation-a cold, you can work that out by raising your circulation. Work out at home though, dont pread your germs all over the place!!

Ive found that green tea keeps all colds at bay, and oregano, so double even triple up on the stuff. The minute you feel a sore throat start drinking the stuff like its going out of style!

If you have a fever or are contagious, the other gym patrons would love for you to stay home! If you just feel yucky sometimes working out will make you feel better!
Stay home and drink some lemon tea and don't feel guilty! You'll have a better workout when you're stronger!

It depends on how sick I am feeling. If I am really bad, then no I don't. If I skip a day or two, then the next time I work out I work out even harder.

A good rule of thumb is, if you are feeling bad enough to stay home from work/school, you should skip the gym as your immune system is too busy fighting the infection and it will just tax your system when it is already weak. If you feel well enough to work/attend school, then working out will actually boost your immune system making it easier to get over your infection.

I usually go with how sick I feel. If I have some energy I will still go becasue it can help you get better faster, but if you feel really bad then just lay it up till you feel better and get back your energy

NO ! NO ! NO ! I will see a doctor or take some medication and rest at home.

I have heard someone got killed when they exercise while they were sick.

yes, 3 or more times. i'm a runner so i like to do 8 miles a day.

the cold mysteriously turned into bronchitis twice after i tried to make up for the the time i skipped.

once i started out with a cold and it developed into pneumonia after i kept pushing myself to run harder because i was eating more.

i've learned my lesson.
