I just want to be able to manipulate my photos on the computer to make them more interesting or further enhance them with special effects. I'm a newbie, please bear with me...any advice will be gratefully appreciated, thanks!

there are so many ways to enhance your photos it would be hard to explain here. do you have any photo editing software? if not i would suggest getting one that allows you to use layers, filters, plugins, etc. a lot of people like some selective coloring-b/w with some color, the "dreamy" effect can work nice in certain photos too. if you'd like me to try to give you more specific tips feel free to email me- photoenhance@yahoo.com but i don't think i'll be much more help at the moment since i don't know if/what software you have.

Get yourself a copy of an image editor like Photoshop. If you can't, just use Picasa which is free and has some good tweaks. Give them more contrast, balance colors, sharpen them a little. If you manage to use PS, try to apply some of the best plugins like Nik, Andromeda, Fred Miranda. Learn to use layers, work with raw files, etc. Your question is too general. Could you be more specific?
