Is the way people think here representative of how people think in society?

Honestly I am kind of disappointed in most people here. Many are very liberal and shun honesty and free opinion. Frankly, many people act like they are perfect but no one is, right? I especially feel this in the parenting section.

Just let people think they are perfect. People ask questions to get advice not to get told what to do by a complete stranger. I hate when people start getting crazy with their answers. I am smart and I know what I am doing but if I ask a question about my pregnancy or anything else, I try to put all the details in so people will not confuse what I am saying.

I like your use of the word liberal as someone who might shun honesty and free opinion. You are one of the people I have learned about in this forum. Somehow the term liberal has come to mean something ugly and to be backed away from. Are you a free and open thinker yourself? I have learned that lots of people have good answers to questions. I have learned that a lot of people are reaching out for help. I have learned that people believe in God and don't believe in God. I have learned that most answers here seem to be a reflection of the people who live in our world. Some people believe they are perfect right here on Yahoo and in real life. Some people have fun, some act stupid, some are quite intelligent, some see this forum as competition. Not real different than the regular person pushing a grocery cart through a store. Too bad if you are disappointed but maybe you need to open your own mind more fully and understand that another person's point of view is as valuable as your own. It may be different but it just as important. If you are disappointed in this forum, you must be disappointed in life as well. What did you expect from Yahoo answers....what you wanted to hear and not what other people had to say. Open up.

I agree with you for the most part. However seeing as i am a liberal I see no problem with that, but I actually tend to think that more people are very conservative on here then liberal. I have noticed however that when someone gives an opinion or is honest they get slammed for it big time. I also keep in mind that alot of people on here ore here only to piss people off and not to give real answers or ask real questions, so you have to weed through those.

Yes many people in the parenting section think they are perfect, but many people all over the world think they are. Its just easier to be a big asshole on an anonymous forum then when you actually have to look someone in the eye.

In any society, in any time in history, public forum exposes the wide variety of opinions. People have never agreed, and often interject insulting comments, because they don't consider the recipient's feelings.

Not being face to face on the net...not knowing anyone personally, it is easier to be rude. However, I appreciate yahoo answers as a place for answers. I love seeing opposing viewpoints. That's good...you know that certain groups are not afraid to post answers just because their viewpoints aren't popular.

As for your comment about parenting:
1. I don't see shunning free opinion as a liberal quality...quite the opposite, actually. I am conservative, and see "us" as being less against free opinion as stereotypes go!

2. Parenting in general is different depending on the family/region of the world the answerer is responding from. It is also a subject where EVERYONE feels they have the best way.

If you have posted a question in parenting, I will check it out and try to see what you mean.

Good question!

I agree. I know I am not a perfect person or parent. I know that anytime I ask a question people ASSUME they know what I am feeling and they don't read the whole question before telling me what they think. I think a lot of times this is used to vent THEIR opinions and think that is the rule! This is just what I have found to be true with ME.
