There are all kinds of yoga mattresses available in the market but if you have a bit comfortable just about anything on the floor or your carpet it should be good enough. Remember the sears used to do the yoga on the grass carpets? The bottom line is that it shouldn't be too confortable.

I prefer on a softer surface, like a carpeted area. Plus use your yoga mat.

Carpeting will lead to carpet or rug burns. Get a Yoga mat at your local sporting goods store (or online). They range from $20 to more than $40.

Sticky mats are the most common mats used for yoga. It's easier to do your practice on them because you can get a good grip with both your hands and feet. Most of them are 1/8 inch thick but I prefer my 1/4 inch thick one. Have fun with your practice.

get a yoga mat and on carpet is the best, hard wood floor is good too.
