My daughter is 6 and my son is 2. They share a white wooden bunk bed. PLEASE can someone give me some good ideas for decorating the bedroom to suit both of them?! Thanks

Decorate the bottom area around the bunks in boy's "stuff" and the upper area in girl "stuff" and give your daughter a pet net or two for up top, since she'll want some of her things to herself. Her top bunk can be her playhouse. If you can move the bed away from the wall a bit and install some bookcases floor to ceiling and then push the beds against them, they can have space to store things right next to the beds. You could even paint the bookcases different colors on the different levels. The bed against it will keep them from falling if they are freestanding but I'd still screw them into the wall joists. Even little ones love to keep things next to the bed :)

How about an outdoor theme? When my son and daughter share a room, we painted one wall light blue, then in a corner added a yellow sun. I took a sponge and painted white clouds. It was bright and cheery but good for both a girl and a boy. You could even get some glow in the dark moons and planets for the ceiling that way when its lights out the ceiling will sparkle with the constellations.

how about a jungle theme? you can get fantastic stencil patterns now - extremely realistic looking birds, animals, plants etc... and you can rope inexpensive silk ivy through the bed slats to make it look like its part of the scene. also, the bed is probably a water-based finish (you can get a kit at the hardware store to test this) and so a light sanding and wipe with tack cloth will make it paint ready for any latex gloss paint color (if you would like) such as a tan or brown to make the bunk bed look like a tree house (think George of the jungle). stuffed animals, jungle print bedding, inexpensive animal print or faux fur throw rugs (try Gardenridge - they have great prices on rugs). all kids love animals, so this is a fun, bright, gender neutral room style.

be sure you're making floor regulations including your 4 twelve months previous to ascertain he would not annoy the infant in any way. little ones and youthful little ones can get slightly too excited or indignant at circumstances and chuck issues around the room and get distracting. in the experience that your infant cries interior the midst of the night, what would be your 4 twelve months olds reaction? Will he substitute into cranky? Will he substitute into annoyed? i think of its a great concept to have the two mutually, yet in hassle-free terms while your 4 twelve months previous is a sprint older. shop your infant with you on your room next on your mattress until eventually he's around a million twelve months - a million twelve months 4 months and until eventually you agree on your 4 twelve months previous is able to coping with the settling in of your infant into his room - until eventually you think of he's in a position already. sturdy luck.

Well like others have said talk to your children, there will be something they both like believe it or not! Whether it is the beach or animals, there will be something. Use colors that don't look too bias to one gender. I think getting your childrens imput will help you and they will enjoy it at the same time.

It would be nice if you can create a theme like 'Knights & dragons','Flowers & fairys','Safari','Neverland(Peterpan)','Ship Ahoy!' and so on,that both of them will like.So try talking to them and come to a conclusion that both will agree.Pretend that you're like "Bob the builder" or a decorator assisting to them (your clients).I think they would enjoy the whole process and YOU would be having fun too!

how about a sea type theme

for the girl have a mermaid, dophin, seal etc.....

for the boy a pirate ship or large ship vessel, shark......

you could also purchase a net and put it on the wall and place starfish, shells, shark jaws etc.... in it

maybe even throw in a manmade treasure chest and they can store toys and such in it

I agree, the room should represent both of their personalities and interest.
