.doc identifies the file as a Word document which can be formatted with all the goodies on the Formatting toolbar and uses "word wrap."
.txt is a simple text file. If you have ever opened one you will see that it is like the old typed material -- a carriage return (enter) at the end of each line. No fancy formatting. Some programs which cannot recognize a Word document will open it if you save the Word document as a text file.

When managing files in Windows, it is helpful to know the type of each file, especially if you have files for the same project or with similar names that were created in different applications. Each application has its own file type or types , indicated by a three- or four-letter file extension, such as .doc for a Microsoft Word document. These extensions are pre-defined by the supporting application. On some Windows installations, file extensions are hidden by default.

Computer or any other electronic machine only understands 0s & 1s (Binary Digits) In Assembly language the hard coding in 1s and 0s is replased by some codes .
.Doc and .Txt are among them In High level language the combination of bith MLL and ALL is used for this we can save our document by choosing any file name but to understand the computer with which package the file is associated that's why we use extentions
The word package is different from the Notepad In Word we can only save a document not commands while in notepad we can save both document as well as commands like HTML commands . thus .Doc is used with Word Doc. and for notepad .txt is given as it's not only document while text command as well.

in case you recommend your .checklist or .docx information now open in Notepad once you double-click them, that looks like the record association for the .checklist/.docx information has been replaced from word to Notepad. this could be an indication of malware on your gadget, and that i strongly recommend you perform a little anti-malware scans. different than for that, in case you are able to suitable-click the information and efficiently do an Open With using MS word, you are able to a minimum of use them. To get them re-linked with word, i might recommend this: In domicile windows XP: a million. In domicile windows Explorer, come across a .checklist record. (.docx record for word 2007) 2. suitable-click on it and choose Open With. 3. If MS word shows up, choose it. 4. If it does no longer, click the Browse button. Navigate to the itemizing C:application FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice10 (Office10 for word 2002 (XP), Office11 for word 2003, place of work 12 for word 2007). discover and choose the record winword.exe. 5. In the two case, examine the checkbox consistently use the chosen application to open the kind of record. 6. click ok. In domicile windows Vista: a million. In domicile windows Explorer, come across a .checklist record. (.docx record for word 2007) 2. suitable-click on it and choose Open With. If a menu pops up, choose choose Default application. 3. flow to Step 3, above. wish that helps.

.doc is much more advanced - it supports all sorts of configuring like bold, italic, underline, different font, different sizes, subscript, etc.
.txt is much simpler and supports only ONE basic font, bold, italic, etc. configuration - in other words, all of the document is the same, you can't have ONE word be in bold in .txt.
