There should be a local mental health clinic. If you don't know of one, contact your local health department and they can direct you to one.

Department of Human Service, most counties have county funding available for counseling services. Call Human Services, Dept. of health and human services, I am trying to think about what else it might be called. They generally will take you in for an appointment and determine your needs and your ability to pay. Many people have a zero ability and then have no charges. Depression is a VERY serious illness and has nothing to do with trying to be better by willpower. I hope you get the help soon. Many of the pharmaceutical companies have grants available that will help pay for the medication. Another place you could start is calling your closest crisis hot line or even a local counseling service and ask them to direct you to a place to start. I hope you get the help you need. If a counseling agency is referred like Catholic or Lutheran Social Services, don't be afraid to go, it is not religious based as far as you going in and them trying to convert you, they help all people. There are probably more Catholics and Lutheran's in the world than there are people on the Internet in any given day. They represent a large population, probably receive funds from their corporations which keeps them going financially. They may be more apt to have a sliding fee. If you are a student, talk to a school counselor, if your an adult and employed, do you have an Employee Assistant Program? Good luck, hang in there.

First, see: www.depression.com/- and www.relax7.com/7.php and the blogs of Shan Eris on "tackling depression" at www.myspace.com and type "depression" in the bar near the top of the myspace homepage. Also the medical and psychology sections of your library. Many religious organisations offer counselling. There is a phone number for a depression hotline in the USA.

Look in the phonebook or google your county for mental health services. For example, in my area, it says "The Department of Mental Health is comprised of three major programs: Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse Control Services, and the Public Guardian's office. These programs are divided into four services that enable the department to provide prompt, efficient, professional, cultural competent, and sensitive community-based services throughout the County:"

Go to your nearest Mental Health Facility. There, they will bill you, but not ever put you into collection, etc. The billing is just something they must do. You can get free counseling at Mental Health, and not need to feel as if you are mentally disabled at all. I did.

You could call psychologists from the phone book, who might accept being paid on a sliding-scale fee basis.
