If it's unopened, then it will be just fine and your neighbor will adore you for for it.
Keep in mind that if it's printed with its age (say, a 12 year old, or 20 year Cognac) it is the same even 10+ years after bottling it. They only "age" in that they improve or mellow with age while in a wooden cask. Once bottled, there's no further aging. So a 10 year old bottle of Cognac bottled in 1975 is still a 10 year old Cognac today.
Regardless of that trivia, your bottle is fine and VERY drinkable. Cheers!

It is NOT definitely off! Kept in a cool, dark place a high alcohol beverage like brandy will keep almost indefinitely as long as it is unopened. Nor is it true that the longer it has been kept the better! Its quality is set at the time of bottling. The improvements that come with ageing is done in casks (traditionally) where air can get to it and assist in its development. I have bottles up to 25 years old. They are no better than the day they were bought, but if they were bad, good or great then, then respectively they will be bad, good or great now. I hope this has covered everything and busted the myths.

brandies expecially not open have been known to last for 200 years if stored in a cool dry place. Remember the older the better

The alcohol and tannin esters preserve it and it will last for many years especially if it's unopened. Wines last for a hundred years or more and they only have corks! That bottle will be fine, never mind the first answerer who has a wrong opinion!

Brandy will keep for years - the longer the better. I am currently working my way through a 1974 botle of cognac, it is delicious.

It is an aged product and basically will last forever. Even opened it loses a little alcohol but the rest does not deteriorate.

Eh what, bad it never will go bad unless opened. Age is good for alcohol, the longer aged the better taste it will have.
