Because too many people let their egos get in the way. They insist on playing the currently popular "I'm the alpha" game rather than actually reading their dog's body language to find out what's going on. Dogs don't do that.

Do you mean why do dogs read human body language well but we don't read dog body language well? I don't think that's true. For instance, we humans love to hug dogs around the neck. It is an affectionate gesture in our minds. But to dogs, this is a sign of dominance. Some dogs will accept it without problem, others will accept it but grudgingly, and others will growl or snap to meet the "challenge" you presented. There are many other examples of dogs not understanding what our intentions are. And they really never can. They can only think like dogs. It's up to us to learn what their body language is and use ours accordingly to get the message across.

Dogs rely on senses. The way we carry ourselves tells a dog allot about what we are feeling. Humans communicate with body language to each other yes but we do not use this sense like animals do. Dogs cannot rely on what someone says they have to sense what we silly humans are trying to convey. Dogs can tell when you are sad or sick even happy and on top of the world. Not by what we say but by the energy we give off and what there senses perceive we are saying.

Humans depend more on spoken language, so they don't put as much effort into signing and understanding signs. Dogs don't have that advantage, so they pay closer attention to physical signs.

This is not true for every dog. Some dogs pick up the tone in your voice as being either good or bad. The next time you are around a dog, try sounding very happy and then try sounding very angry and not a pretend anger sound.

Dogs already speak in body lanquage. Humans have ignored that part of communication and concentrated on spoken language.

Dogs learn by being physical and part of that is watching. They watch humans and pick up on their behavior
