I weaned my 15 1/2 month old son about a month ago. At first we weren't giving him much cows milk (maybe 3 oz a day) but the doctor said he needed 24 oz a day so about 5 days ago we really started encouraging the milk so he was drinking 24 oz a day. On the 2nd day of the 24 oz he got diarrhea. After the 2nd night of diarrhea he broke out in hives. So the 3rd morning I brought him to the doctor and she said it looked like a cows milk allergy because he was a bit weezy. She recommended we take him off cows milk and do soy milk for a bit, then try and reintroduce cows milk.

So yesterday he started on soy milk. He drank 3 sippy cups (about 24 oz) and he was SOOO gassy and grumpy. He had been sleeping through the night for about 2 1/2 weeks prior to last night. Last night he woke up every hour screaming. He pooped twice (he never poops at night). He was just gassy, screaming, very very very very irritable.

I called the doctors office and I can't get him in for 2 weeks.....

No doctor here will give advice over the phone either.

He eats quite a bit of cheese and yogurt. He eats a very well balanced diet. Lots of veggies, fruit, meat, beans. He's a very good eater.

What should I do?

no cows milk. hes too young. no cows milk til age one your gonna kill your baby you cant give cows milk til age one. get that baby back on formula and stop giving that child cheese hes in pain because your killing him get him back on formulahis tiny tummy cant handle cows milk or regular soy milk he needs baby milk hes a BABY

ADDED.
no doctor would tell you to wean a four month old. on to cows milk as their intestines and digestive tract cant handle it. stop all soilds and get the baby back on a strictly formula diet you were a fool to wean a child this young no dairy til age one

ok i misread. try this. he must be lactose intolerant. seems these days lots of kids are mine is. this is expensive but works. get the lactose free. the lactaid milk its 4 bucks for a quart very expensive. or try this it worked for my son. put him on one or two percent and if hes eating regular table foods which he should be soon if he isnst already dont worry about getting him to drink milk hes getting all he needs from food and juice and try a toddler multi vitamen

If he was on breast milk, he isn't lactose intolerant! To me, it sound like he is adjusting (poorly) to the changes. Try giving him nestle good start followup formula (its for ages 6-18months). Vay this throughout the day with soy milk (cows milk sounds like its harming more than helping) Give him the formula in one sippy cup, and milk in another sippy cup. This way, he won't need to intake so much milk. It will make for an easier transition. Also,he can't be lactose intolerant if he is responding well to yogurt and cheese...duh!!!! Anyways, give that a shot! It won't hurt him, it won't be nar as expensive as buying strictly soy milk (as that can get costly) and the formula is only about 12-15 bucks for a 900 gram can) Good Luck
I hope your little man feels better soon

If he's eating cheese and yogurt 24 oz a day of milk sounds like a lot, especially if he is drinking other liquids and is not dehydrated. You could try rice milk which is even milder than soy milk, but I would vote for getting a second opinion, especially since you can't see the regular doc for two weeks.
