The mom was a teenage bride, already pregant before the wedding.
The groom was not the child's father, but in a display of codependency married her anyway.
Thereafter (according to some) she remained frigid, never once having sex with her husband.
The parents took a trip and neglectfully forgot to bring their young son back home with them.
The son grew up to remain a bachelor and wander around the countryside as a street preacher with 12 other men, whose loyalty was open to question.
He was eventually executed for political crimes.
How would you react if someone in your family modeled their family life after the family of Jesus?

The Roman Catholic Church says that Mary remained "ever virgin" and that Jesus' brothers referenced in the Bible were probably from Joseph's first marriage. All of this is conjecture so they get to keep the BVM a V.

There's nothing wrong with an alternative family as long as it doesn't create an environment that is detrimental to the children.
So, whatever worked for them.
I'd be a bit worried about leaving your kid behind, though.

The bride was already married when she became pregnant.
Culture during this time required a waiting period of up to one year in which a husband could come and claim his wife. They were not engaged, they were espoused (Married).
Once the groom was told by the "father" of the circumstances of the conception of the child. he willingly went and claimed his bride early.
He did not "know" his bride until after the birth of the firstborn. After this he "knew" his bride and she bore him other children.
Cultural ways and traditions change throughout centuries, and we no longer have to travel long distances in large groups in order to pay our taxes. The son was 12 and considered grown up enough at that time and day and age to leave with the group when it was time to leave. It took his parents quite a while to go throughout the entire large traveling party and determine that their son was not among any of them. It was then that they traveled back and found him still in the city.
No different than if your child is missing. You look everywhere you know of to look before you call in help.
This couples son was and is special and there is none, no not one that was ever like him or will be like him. His teachings and his reason for being here was not the same as our reasons for being here. He was killed for the crime of being the Messiah.

Your information is incorrect. Jesus did have brothers and sisters. They did not neglectfully forget to bring him home, he chose to stay and they chose to let him. Joseph did not marry her out of codependency. He married her becuase he loved her. He could have walked away and had the community throw her out as a whore.

Hmmmmmm...
This might be some peoples image of what Jesus' family was like and in that it is pretty screwed up. But I doubt it was like that.
Still good food for thought.

I think she had sex with her husband after jesus was born. Thats where jesus had brothers and sisters.
At least he had a carpenter job and got everyone drunken with wine and made a lot of fish and bread.
