I want to get a maltese around the price of $800. my friend says they are, and I told her they were $1000, and she said they're ripping you off. there are some $900 ones, but there are some other really cute ones!!!!! so, please give me any website that sells maltese dogs. not teacup. I have already tried www.anypets.com. plz do not answer by saying "rescue one from the humane society!" It may sound like I am a criticizer, but I do not think one from the humane society is a great idea. I am sorry to the people who got it at the humane society... lol but T.T at the same time... thx!

you shouldn't be buying pets from the internet. you should find a breeder in your area. when you buy off the internet, you don't know what you are getting. the animal could be sick, or not even exist. good luck

I would try looking up local breeders so that you can actually go and meet the puppies before getting one. That way you can also meet the parents and the owners. You'll be able to get a better idea of which one would be good for you and the breeders can provide you with helpful information. As for getting animals from the humane society, I know your entitled to your opinion, but shelter dogs have been proven to turn out as some of the best pets. Plus you don't have to spend a fortune to adopt one, your saving an animals life, and you can on occasion find AKC registered dogs. Also look in to Maltese rescues. Where ever you get the puppy from make sure it's a reputable breeder or rescue and that they require to meet you in person. Hopefully this helps and below is a website that lists some Maltese breeders. Good luck!

Contact a local breeder. Go to www.akc.org. Look up the maltese breeder association/club website. On that website should be information about how to find breeders in your area. You will most likely have to call the local contact person. They will give you the names and numbers of anyone with a litter or soon to have a litter in your area. It is the best way to buy a quality purebred puppy. That is how we found our poodle breeder and he has the best temperment of any dog we've ever met. $800 sounds about right for a male. Expect to pay a bit more for a female because they are in higher demand. Talk to the breeder about which would be right for you. Our breeder informed us that males are easier as the first pet.

Breeders have different ways of determining their prices, so you may see a variety of price ranges. My average pet price is $1,200.

Not all ads in the newspaper are responsible breeders, then when you get there you feel so sorry for the dog because of the poor conditions you buy it anyway to save it. Usually you end up with and unsociable or even unhealthy pet. Show breeder's breed as close to the standard as possible to improve the breed. They are proving their breeding stock worthy by showing their dogs in conformation AKC dog shows. They are concerned and up to date on health issues and are true enthusiasts of the breed. They usually spend more money breeding and showing than they will ever get in return for their puppies. They devote their lives to one or two breeds and are always available when you have a problem.
Maltese require frequent (daily) grooming. They may be left long if you are willing to spend time combing and brushing daily and weekly baths. Most people find it easier to find a professional Groomer to clip them in a puppy cut usually about an inch long all over with a shorter beard and little bangs. Maltese coat does not shed like an undercoated breed, but it can mat severely. Grooming costs in my area are around $30.00 every 5-6 weeks for a puppy cut.

Because Maltese are a toy breed, they are most suitable for families with well behaved children over 7 years old. Maltese do not need a lot of room for exercise; they will entertain themselves indoors and are quite happy doing so. Maltese travel well by car or airline, They are happy in a crate (and safer) or Sherpa bag.

Yes it is much easier to potty train a puppy that is crate trained. It is also a safe place for your puppy when you can't be there or when you are too busy to keep and eye on them. Dogs love a small napping place out of the way; it is instinctive for them to den. So what better place then the crate.

Thanks for not caring enough to save a life. Thanks for being so cold hearted and DUMB as to buy a dog off the Internet. You think you'll end up with problems from a rescue dog, just wait till some BYB gets your money off the net. All I can say is you'll get what you deserve.
Edit: I would say go to a dog show but I don't think any show breeder would sell to you if they found out that you think the way you do.

If you want a quality Maltese contact the parent breed club at: http://www.americanmaltese.org/ . they can put you in contact with reputable people in your area. Please do not buy a dog from a pet store...www.stoppuppymills.com invest in a quality animal ... and although you are opposed to a shelter dog there are currently over 300 Maltese or Maltese mixes in shelters across the country right now. 10% of those are babies! Might be worth a look....http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?action=1&pet.Animal=Dog&pet.Breed=maltese&pet.Age=Baby&pet.Size=&pet.Sex=&location=33315&preview=1&scope=2&x=0&y=0

I wouldn't recommend buying a dog on a website. A good breeder will require at least one meeting with you. You are opening yourself up to a bad experience, and supporting practices that are unfair to the dogs. Check with a vet or the local AKC for good breeders in your area. It may cost more money in the beginning, but it will save you money in the long run.

To get a dog from a breeder at the price you want, sit down with the breeder and negotiate. Tell them what you want to spend and see if you can reach some kind of agreement.

I agree with bladedogs. If yout hink shelter dogs have problems. Wait until you buy on off of the net from a shitty breeder. Wait until your dog has many health problems becuase back yard breeders dont care. They dont give medical attention to dogs dont show their dogs to prove that they are brededer worthy ect. have fun with the problem you will buy.
