I spend a lot of time out on the road and observe the general driving of people today.

I notice that the larger proportion of drivers speed to excess.

The use of speed should be treated with respect, speed limits ARE there for a reason, THE SAFETY OF YOURSELF AND OTHERS.

Everyone rolls over the speed limit from time to time, I accept that. But i cannot begin to comprehend the people who speed excessively.
There are so many different impacts on why speeding is not good, for example, SAFETY, environmantal impact, wear and tear on your beloved car, too many to name all.

Is there really anyone that can justify putting THEIR lives and (more importantly) THE LIVES OF OTHERS at risk, just to get somewhere a few seconds earlier.

If you think an accident will never happen to you, I beg to differ. It will catch up on you in the end.

If you think you are so good that you will never have an accident, I trust you have been through all the ADVANCED DRIVING courses.

It's not how fast you drive...it's how you drive fast. There are people on the highway that never break the speed limit but are a menace on the road nonetheless...wouldn't you agree? The kid in a clapped out Honda with bald tires on a rainy road at 40 MPH is probably a lot more of a danger than someone in a well maintained car driving 20 MPH over the speed limit. I agree speeding in rush hour traffic or in heavy traffic in general is stupid however when traffic is light or non-existent if I choose to drive however fast over the speed limit I desire then it's my business and not yours.

Why do people climb in the Mimalayas when it's so cold and dangerous?

Why do people go down pot-holes, hang-glide, bungie-jump, go bareback riding or ski-jumping?

Why do some people race cars at 200mph?

It's a fact of life that those children who survive running on top of railway bridges and dodging traffic for the sheer hell of it, often go on to do quite risky things as teenagers and adults.

It's called being male and you can blame testosterone.

If you never did anything dangerous, then you are either a female or a wimp.

Edit: If you read what "numpty" the truck ACTUALLY said, you will realise that he knows what he is talking about. As a truck-driver myself, with 2,000,000 miles of safe driving behind me, there are many people alive to-day because I anticipated the stupidity of others drivers and reacted FOR them before they got themselves killed by a 44 ton truck.

People who speed usually have good eyesight, and poor eyesight coupled to poor anticipation is THE biggest killer on the roads today, but half-blind drivers don't APPEAR dangerous.

I think there should be more tougher penaltys and stiffer sentences who speed eratically or at excessive speeds i am not a driver myself but the people who speed are putting other road users and pedestrians at danger i think if people who get caught by police should be made sit there test again or a more advanced test and they may learn not to speed in 30mph built up areas as such as school kids to and from schools I think they are a serious risk

I live near the A1 and I`ve seen cars travelling at ridiculous speeds. What these idiots don`t realise (or maybe they do but don`t care) is that if they have an accident they are also going to wipe out other innocent people.

The speeding motorists do NOT care about other road users, they just want to get to their destination as fast as possible.

As a pedestrian on a daily basis I am almost hit by speeding motorists - their wing mirrors pass millimetres from my face and arms. Before anyone comments they are NO pavements or street lights on part of the road I MUST walk down to catch the bus I MUST catch to get to work, and I wear a reflective jacket AND carry a lit torch

Their exceeding the speed limit is nothing to do with getting to their destination quickly. They could not even save a nano-second. Traffic lights etc see to that. It is simply that they cannot wait, they have no patience and they are not satisfied until they have overtaken the car in front.

Because they are either low lifes or weaklings without reasonable self discipline. It is particularly bad in early evening with idiots who are incapable of earning a living and getting home at a reasonable time for dinner as well.

Some drivers speed like this, cause they are in a hurry to get somewhere, but sometimes it just gets them to an early grave!

Whatever you read in the news papers and what the government tells you. Speed doesn't kill. Modern cars are perfectly safe and capable to travel at 90-100mph.

If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen
