There are a few ways to identify which engine your vehicle is equipped with. The first and most obvious way, is to look under the hood. As the other two have posted, the DOHC 24-valve Duratec engine will be identified on the upper intake emblem. Or, you can look at the eighth digit of your 17 digit VIN. If it is an 'S', it's the 24-valve V6. If it is a 'U', it's the 3.0L OHV V6, which is what most of these cars are equipped with. If the reason for replacing the thermostat is due to lack of heat, you might want make sure the blend door is operating properly. Also, if you are going to replace the T-stat, make sure you THOROUGHLY flush, and backflush the heater core. This is because the 3.0L OHV engines all had problems with rust deposits in the cooling system causing blockages. Hope this helps. Good luck.

The 24 Valves were marked with DOHC on the Engine and on the outside of the car.

The usual suspect is a belt, most often a power steering belt, but sometimes an A/C belt. Buy a can of "belt dressing" and spray it on the inside of the belts while the engine is idling, (Watch out for the fan!) You should hear the squealing stop immediately when you find the culprit. Next find the reason for the squeal, usually a belt that is too loose. Adjust the P/S or A/C unit to tighten the belt. It should move about 1/2" when depressed heavily between the two pulleys.
