When my husband and I got married we hired a bilingual officiant. She did a great job, very professional, etc. When it came to our marriage license, we never received it. We called her several times and at first she said she had to find out what happened and we never heard back. We called and she would answer or return our messages. I had to trick her into calling us back by submitting a new request for her services. We went to the court house and basically nothing had been sent to them and to file a small claim it would be to much time and money we didnt have. All I want is for someone else not to fall for this. What can I do?

Those fake weddings are only good for one night.

Did you tell them at the court house. They generally frown on anyone faking services. Better Business Bureau is good. Local cops might want to have a talk with her too.

By the way.... I'd be thinking about getting married because, at least in the eyes of the government, you are not.

The thing is that it's not all that hard to become a justice of the peace. You might try to find out if she is a justice of the peace. If she is then I take back what I said about you not being married. Call her again and mention the cops. Tell her you'll record the documents yourself.

Report her to the Better Business Bureau, and ask at the courthouse who else you can report the matter to. She cheated you out of your money, that's true... but she cheated you out of your marriage memories as well, which is just awful. Wherever you found her information, go back and tell them that she's not legitimate. You chose her because she was bilingual...spread the word around your community that she's not legitimate.

The get yourselves a civil justice through the court house and re-affirm your marriage to make it legal.
