Depends on what you mean by the "best". There are a ton of fad diets and pills out there that can help you lose a lot of weight really fast. Unfortunately, once you get off of them, you put all of that weight back on. And some of them do really bad things to your body. For me, the best means a diet that will help me lose weight at a healthy pace, help me keep it off and not cause damage to my system in the process. In that regard, I think the South Beach Diet is the best diet. It breaks your dependency on the bad for you foods then helps you build a lifestyle around eating the right carbs and the right fats. I was on Phase 1 & 2 for a total of six months and lost 40-50 lbs. I kept it off for nearly two years sticking to Phase 3, then I got pregnant. Now that I have baby weight to lose, I plan on starting up with phase 1 again. Check out the book or website.

To be honest, there is no diet. It depends how much weight you want to loose. If your looking to loose 1-5 kilos you may try cutting out all sugary and fatty food, as well as alcohol and snacking only on fruit. Replacing your meals with salads and lean meats will make you loose weight. You basically just need to keep a record of your daily intake. 5000kj a day with excercise will make you loose around 1/2 a kg per week if you stick to it. Its what Jenny Craig puts as a limit. Look at the kilojule content on the back of foods and write it down in a little diary. Loosing weight is like a simple equation, you will burn fat if you eat less kilojules than you need. Buy diet yoghurt, diet jellys and miso soup to snack on. They have very little kilojules, whilst high in artificial sweetners, I think its worth having them for a while if you want to loose a bit of weight.
