Firstly the name Jesus is Yehusa in Aramaic and Joshua when translated into Greek, and there were many with the name Joshua in the Bible, and the name means=God saves`
But I think you maybe refering to the many who claimed to be the Messiah around this time and there were a few of these, some were possessed and some were just looking for fame and adulation, others were probably mentally disturbed too.
Jesus however proved that He was the Christ and Messiah by what He said and did, and by finally laying down His life as scripture foretold to save the world.

think of it... How many 2000 year old books are there about a carpenter's son living in Israel? Just off the merit that there is a book about a MAN 2000 years ago, that is still a best seller is incredible. Yet you still question if he was the son of God? How much proof do you need? He was not a fluke, the others were, How do you know that they were not derived from stories of the true and actual Jesus Christ?

If by "Jesuses" you mean people with the Hebrew name Yeshua, then sure... I'm sure there were a lot of them just like there are a lot of Mike's and Sean's and Tito's and Jose's. If by "Jesuses" you mean more than one person for which the Christian religion gets its writings about "Jesus of Nazareth", then no, there were not more than one "Jesus."

Historically speaking there was a Jesus bar Kockba (sp?) who led a revolt, but this individual is clearly historically diferentiated from Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified under Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem.

I bet there was one "Jesus" at the time. Something about his story caught the ear of Paul of Tarsus. (Coma once again being mistaken for death but seen by a large number of people? A typical Crucifixion lasted for three days, not just a few hours. ) Then Paul started adding, subtracting and otherwise changing the entire "Jesus" story. He brought in things from other faiths such as the story of Mithra, the "virgin birth" story and so forth to bolster the credentials of "Jesus" until finally you have the Xianity of today.

It was NOT by "pure fluke," it was through God's design that He (incarnate as the Christ) would be seen as the means of salvation for mankind. A name alone does not determine ones place in the scheme of the universe. I find it wonderful (in the truest meaning of the word) that God so loves us that He was willing to go through all the suffering and pain in order to redeem us after Mankind went astray. YBIC

Jesus was indeed a common name in those time, but only 1 could battle satan and save the souls of many. This qualifies him to be the Messiah of all.

No, there weren't any that were like Jesus Christ, even if there were "prophets" who may have said they were.

Do you really think it was an accident that the Scriptures have survived all these years, as well as the rememberance of Jesus Christ?
It was no accident.

Jesus was quite a common name in that time period. It was the people who believed in Him, that set a seal upon Him.

Spanish people name their children 'Jesus', but pronounce it 'ha-sus'). So maybe there were alot of hispanics running around during that duration. Plus, God doesn't work on 'flukes' - He represents reality! Therefore if you do NOT believe Jesus is the beginning and the end BOY do you have a UNHAPPY ending heading your way!
