i was not asking about food choice because of income. i was asking if a person is in charge of their food choices or is it someone elses fault? (like fast food or bad school lunch programs).

Some people buy what they can afford and not necessarily what they want to eat.

It depends on if the individual lives in a society where there is always adequate food--millions of people in the world don't have much of a choice.

If someone lives in an affluent culture like the USA and has the financial means; then their nutrition is determined by personal choice and strongly influenced by family, peers, ethnic group, religion and so on. Being an adult matters too, I wanted to be a vegetarian since I was a child but I was unable to put this into practice until I had a full time job and was able to move out of my parents' house.
