as long as science does not try to contradict the Bible we trust it. but you are asking to much if you expect us to embrace every scientific breakthrough over Gods word.

Well, Christians have to choose which stories to take literally because even they realise that some of the stories are absurd. When science doesn't directly contradict the Bible, they embrace it.
The stories of people living for 600-900 years are all complete fabrications. Of course some believers will come up with the ludicrous story that life expectancy has fallen since then, when it is a fact that life expectancy has never been greater. It is now more than three times what it was in the Bronze Age.

I would think that if you pick and choose something that is correct, and not taken out of context, where's the problem?
Some scientific facts are true, others are not. People can and do make mistakes.
For the data, you have to really dig into the early part of Genesis.
It's time consuming, but well worth the effort.

When will people learn (and accept) that science is allowed, but where science fails the Bible continues? God told man to be fruitful and multiply. For that reason is was allowed that man would live for hundreds of years. As the world became more populated, the need for 800-year-olds wasn't needed. Pollutions, diseases, poisons, and violence wasn't as free flowing back then as it is today.
Now, with the chemicals in our foods today alone, it's surprising that man lives to 45.
Picking and chosing from the bible is prohibited (confirmed my Paul) because the context (for which the Scriptures were written in) are just as important as the scriptures themselves.

What were the atmospheric conditions 2 million BC? Where's the data?
Yet we base many of our scientific assumptions on the fact that we assume these conditions. That they are the same as they are now and that the variables are constant.

To understand why people lived longer before the time of Noah is scripturally in harmony with this question.
See Genesis 1:6,7, In Noah's day this water from above fell most likely in the polar regions first? I wasn't there nor were any scientist but common sense would tell us that if there was water above it shielded us from the harmful effects of the sun. It would be possible for man when closer to a perfect state to of lived longer. The data is reasonable just as scientific data is reasonable.
No one living today was there, but the history book has proven in so many places to be accurate and in tune with scientific theory's. gemhandy@msn.com

If you pick and choose what to believe you are saying part of the Bible is wrong. If one part is wrong then all of it is wrong.
Personally I believe the whole Bible is absolutely true. This includes some of the books that they chose to leave out of it...that is picking and choosing

cherry picking is fun!
loving mama: "as long as science does not try to contradict the Bible we trust it."
that's a retarded statement. Science does not try to contradict anything. Science IS. As long as the bible does not make ludicrous claims that are obviously false or able to be proven false it is OK. When it does, adhering to said bible is insanity.

That was only at the beginning of the Bible up until the time of Noah. Weuse the same data that you use to try to prove evolution. It can just as easily be used to prove a universal flood.

Who told you that. ALL Christians and their preachers PICK and CHOOSE from the bible. That's called SELECTIVE OBEDIENCE/ADHERENCE.
