I'm going on vacation next week and there's a possiblity I won't be able to work out every day or even at all. Will this cause me to gain weight?

This all depends on what you have been doing and what your going to do.

If you work out a lot then the week off may be good for you. Rest is a great thing for muscles, However you will lose a little bit on the cardio/conditioning side when you get back, but not much.

However if you only do a little here and a little there currently, then there will be not much change.

What are you going to eat? Are you going on a cruise? Wherever you are going you can always do Push ups and sit ups and lunges, jumping jacks, jump rope, & etc...

Are you going somewhere warm? If so go for a jog in the morning
Are you going somewhere cold, Jumping jacks in the room.

Eitherway you will be fine, If your afraid you won't be able to do anything at all, then cut back your calories this week by 1/3 to 1/2 enjoy your vacation. Or just eat healthy on your vacation (which is never fun!)

you might see a slight gain if you change your eating habits as well. Since it is just one week you will be alright.

Limit your one week breaks when you are trying to lose... If you are just working on maintaining then you can bounce back pretty easy.

On your vacation keep yourself hydrated- often when we go on vacation we forget to keep ourselves hydrated-especially if you will be drinking as most vacationers do- drink lots of water- You might see a gain of about 3pounds but dont worry two weeks after your return you will have lost those easy

Have fun and relax- vacation is just that.. a get a way so dont worry about the gain (but if u want to work out you can do cardio by walking- and most hotels have gyms now a days)

it might be actually good.

Especially when you have been hitting the weights hard for a time a rest might spark new gains because the body will recuperate and when you start again this can translate itself in new gains.

If however your plan is to go drinking alcohol non-stop during ur holiday and eat only junk food and sleep 2 hours per night u might gain a lot of fat and your body might take a long time to get into shape again.

So use ur rest wisely and don't indulge too much in bad stuff, a little bit is ok of course.

Not only during vacations, in your everyday routine, you should take rests every week.

your body is so used to you working out that it would take a toll on it.
