i get real depressed knowing that i need to lose at least 50 pounds right now im trying the grapefruit diet but i feel like its not going to work. i would like to lose my weight and keep it off. i feel that i too old and nothings going to work (im 35 yrs)

First the nutrition...no grapefruit diets, you deserve to eat good healthy food. I recommend the Mediterranean diet. Go buy a bottle of virgin pressed olive oil, 2 or 3 onions and some real garlic cloves. Also buy 2 red or green peppers, a lemon and a lime Buy salad makings, salad dressing, tuna and sardines. Then buy 5 cans of tomatoes with basil, a bag of brown or white rice, and a box or two of whole wheat pasta. Next at the frozen fish counter buy several bags of fish, or if you prefer fresh caught salmon. Buy a bag of mussells. Buy a lamb chop. You now have the makings of a weeks worth of great meals.
Every day eat breakfast...granola or oatmeal with real fruit..I buy frozen strawberries or a mixture. You MUST eat cereal for breakfast..with light vanilla soy milk..it's yummy..
Have a salad for lunch. . . and a tuna or sardine sandwich. Wheat bread, light mayo....
For dinner:
Peel two cloves of garlic, and chop 1/3 of an onion. Pour a tablespoon of olive oil in a frying pan and heat. Throw in one piece of onion and when it starts to cook add the rest of the onion and garlic. Add 1/3 of your red or green pepper chopped. Saute about 2 minutes. Add your 16 oz can of tomatoes. This is your "basic Mediterranean sauce"
Invest in a rice cooker. Cook rice according to directions...
Cook fish. I recommend 5-7 minutes in the micro with half a lemon or lime squeezed over the top.
Once rice is cooked, add fish and sauce and YUMMY>>>try to eat this meal as early in the evening as possible.
You can vary this by having the Med sauce over pasta, and mussels or lamb instead of fish.
If you are ok with drinking wine, buy a bottle of wine. After you walk after dinner you can have a glass of either red or white wine as your treat for being good all day.
After a week of this diet you won't ever go back to eating grapefruit.
P.S. keep olives, tuna canned in olive oil, and pickles on hand for emergency snacking. Also Laughing cow lite cheese.
Part 2-Exercize. Walk. Walk up stairs. Park your car as far away from every store as you can. Walk before you eat breakfast...walk after dinner. Every day you must walk as far as you can and then some. Pretty soon you'll be as chic as the Parisian women.

Is your morning TSH below 2.0? That's the first step. You need your morning TSH around 1.0 or weight loss will be extremely difficult. If after havig it at 1.0 for over 6 months and you still can't lose weight then its time to try a different thyroid medication. Most find it easer to lose weight when they switched to Armour.

Another factor could be insulin resistance. Many who are hypothyroid develop IR because of the weight they gained. The insulin resistance makes it hard to lose the weight. Usually its treated by reducing carbs and Metformin ER.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

First of all are you taking anything for your Thyroid problem? If you are then your doctor needs to do a blood test to make sure you are getting the correct dose. If not then I would recommend you going to a health food store and talking to a herbalist about your desire. They can recommend a good natural Thyroid supplement to boost your thyroid. That should help you lose the weight.

hello sandy s try and get on a low calorie diet and a low carb also then you should be able to get your weight right where you want it to be stick to a low calorie diet
