I have a lab who refuses to be "locked up" He even opens the doors in the house and lets himself out right now I have boxes in front of them so he cant but its a pain in the butt and looks ugly .but back to the question He jumps the fence so we got him a chain but he has figured out how to get out of every single collor we have bought him,The electric fence did not work neither .I dont know how to keep him from getting out.We have a huge yard so its not like he dont have room to run.My husband takes him out running and swimming too.Im just not sure what to do and I feel bad for the neighbors.

Don't keep the dog chained up. It's not nice. He will feel cornered and can get protective and prehaps aggressive. He's probably restless. Labs are extremely active and they need a lot of play and exercise. They are also very social and need a lot of interaction with their family. Correct any bad behavior with a calm, firm voice. Do not yell. Do not hit. If you have to do something physical, pinch his neck [not hard, just enough fo rhim to notice] or grab him by the collar.

To tie a dog outside is to seperate him from his pack. The collar isn't tight enough if he is escaping. Tighten it, but be sure you can fit two fingers between his neck and the collar.

We had this problem with two boxers. We ended up building a fence that is about 5 ft high and they still got out of that. But we found out where their favorite spot to escape was and used extra fence to build an arch over the top of the fence leaning inward so that the dog cant get over the fence in that spot. Maybe if you do that to the whole fence that might keep your dog from getting out.

Put the dog on a leash and go out into the yard with him. Use a 15- or 30-foot leash if you want to. Unless you are able to build a dog run or add to the height of the fence, that's the only solution.

I agree with Tigger. Sometimes a taller fence can cure the problem of the escape artist. I know it can be frustrating. Good luck.
