Catholic tradition is fish on Friday throughout lent because they are supposed to give up meat on that day.

Why move the line? We classify food based on degree of relatedness. Fish are less related than birds and other mammals. Crustaceans and mollusks are less related than fish. Plants are less related still. Historically, a variety of mammals and foul were sacrificed on feast days. You don't eat feast foods on days of penance. Who ever heard of sacrificing the fatted trout?

Umm, ok, but who does not consider them meat, and why? I consider them animals, and would call a vegetarian a faker if they ate them, but religiously, well, what religion does not consider them meat, and why?

I agree, I am also vegetarian and have been by choice for 6 years now
