They have been brainwashed to hate Arabs -just as they hated native Americans, Blacks, Chinese, Jews etc before them

Much of this hatred comes from Hollywood which portrays Arabs as Nazis once portrayed Jews

The first thing to determine is whether most Americans do hate Arabs. It would be easy to get the impression that that is the case, but you may be responding to the appearance created by the media.

At present there is a conflict between nations that are principally Arab in population, and so the media, in collusion with the government, feels obliged to dehumanize the Arab people, so as to make it easier to bypass the prohibition all people hold toward homicide.

This is the "public face" of America.

I would suspect, however, that in your contact with individual Americans, you will find them, except for the odd right-wing xenophobe, rather disposed to be friendly toward you.

Humans as individuals tend to get along reasonably well. It's just when they are organized into states or religions that they get a bit bent out of shape.

Oh I don't know, could it be the..............and I am just taking a guess here.
1. The World Trade Center attack that killed thousands and destroyed many more families.
2. The Images of abducted Americans,"Daniel Pearl and others who were held against their will, physically abused and mentally tortured as a tool by Arab extremists only to be publicly executed by DECAPITATION ON VIDEO and paraded on TV for the world to view.
3. The Gulf and Iraqi wars that have left thousands of Americans dead or permanently injured.
4. The countless suicide bombing over the last 20 years that have attacked our military barracks, Ships and Embassies.
5. The ongoing and ever-present strife between the different Arab cultures that attack and destroy each other for reasons that are as antiquated as the Bible.
6. The world's view that even though the Middle East has all that oil, ONLY A HANDFUL OF FAMILIES ARE FILTHY RICH and live so opulently, while the general populous eeks out survival and kills each other for philosophical supremacy.
But hey, who judging here, RIGHT?

Most Americans (and most people anywhere) fear and sometimes hate things or people that they don't understand. 9/11 did not do much to improve the situation. It is far too easy to generalize the "Death to America" chanting in Iran, and the rallies held by terrorists and extremists to the broader Arab world. I think what it comes down to is that the underpinnings of classical Arab civilization and culture are being threatened by the globalization of the world economy and the pressures of Western culture on youth. The reaction to these perceived threats (especially by the theocratic and dictatorial governments of the region) is extremely negative, and that is the majority of what Americans see of the Arab world.

Hmmm... In a political and historical vacuum, this question makes sense. However, when put into the context of reality....not so much sense.

Turn on the news sometime. Most Arab states' politiciians make a living out of chanting "Death to America". I can't imagine why Americans don't love that...

well, that is simply not true. USA is one of the the most tolerant countries in the whole world. As a matter of fact it taught tolerance to many other countries, that is why every one including Arabs strive to leave their homelands and live in USA. The kind of treatement they get in the USA is unparralleled even back home, the rights they enjoy - no matter what is their background or beliefs - are not offered to whom you consider different than you in your homeland country, and -although- most of those who dream of the destruction of the USA ,eat, drink, work and learn by the donations offered by the americans, they still think of them as bad people. THINK of THAT.

God knows I never did. It's awful, but children and teens are swayed by who the bad guys are in movies. It used to be Russians. In the '80s, more people were afraid of the Japanese than the Soviets. Then it was Columbians. Now we feed our children a diet of shady middle easterners. As much as I thought Dan Quayle was a boob, he was right to speak out about Hollywood's influence on public opinion.

NOT ALL AMERICANS HATE "ARABS". NOW DO MOST AMERICANS, INCLUDING ME DISLIKE ISLAMO-FASCISTS, YES. I CANNOT STAND ANY GROUP WHO USES SOMETHING AS HOLY AS RELIGION AND IT'S FOLLOWERS TO FURTHER THERE CAUSE. I AM A CHRISTIAN AND THE SAME APPLIES FOR GROUPS LIKE THE KU KLUX KLAN, ARYAN NATION, ETC. THESE GROUPS (FALSE CHRISTIANS) USE PSEUDO-CHRISTIAN VALUES TO RECRUIT, BRAINWASH, AND ADVANCE POLITICAL AND IDEOLOGICAL AGENDAS FOR THEMSELVES JUST LIKE THE ISLAMO-FASCISTS. YOU NEED TO GET YOUR STUFF STRAIGHT TOO, WHEN YOU SAY ARAB YOU ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT A RELIGIOUS GROUP OF PEOPLE, ARABS ARE NOMADIC PEOPLE FROM ANCIENT PERSIA, MODERN DAY IRAN AND IRAQ AND THE "STAN'S". AMERICANS ARE, AND RIGHTFULLY SO CAUTIOUS ABOUT CERTAIN GROUPS THAT WOULD DO US HARM. I DO FIND IT FUNNY THOUGH, DURING ALL THESE INSTANCES OF TERRORISM COMMITTED BY MUSLIMS, NO MAJOR MUSLIM LEADER EVER COMES FORWARD TO CONDEMN THESE ACTIONS, BUT THERE IS ALWAYS PLENTY OF CELEBRATION IN CERTAIN PARTS OF THE WORLD.
