I am new to this and I want to go through what my boyfriend does. He is Catholic while I was Baptist and I recall doing this and I just want to do what he does.

Catholics in the United States are obliged to abstain from the eating of meat on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays during the season of Lent.

They are also obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday.

Self-imposed observance of fasting on all weekdays of Lent is strongly recommended. This is where people also give up chocolate, sarcasm, or something else for Lent.

With love in Christ.

You can eat however you wish. Some use lent to attempt to associate with the trials of Christ and restrict something that they may normally enjoy or they know is sinful during this time.

Some decide to fast for one meal a day. Others say no to a particular food. The whole purpose is that as you struggle to hold to your fast, you turn to God for the strength and therefore strengthen your faith during this time.

According to traditional Catholic law, you are supposed to fast for the next 39 days. That's why Mardi Gras was developed, to fatten up so you wouldn't starve to death over the next 40 days. Hope you ate a lot on Tuesday...

"It is not what goes in the mouth that defiles a man, but what comes out" I would say that you could eat whatever you want, because keeping rituals has nothing to do with your realtionship to God.

The only restriction is that you should abstain from eating meat on Friday.

You should also abstain from sex until you are married.

Hope this helps.
